Wonderful dogs with having 5 kids run around the house and for about 10-15 mins she is up running around and then shes pooped out! Shawn

[QUOTE=daniyal;1397985]I love bulldogs they're absolutely awesome!!! I want one in the worst way imaginable but there are no breeders here and I don't like buying dogs from pet shops (which I feel are unethical money making outfits). Any one here breed these beauties?
Where are you at,,I can find reputable breeders most everywhere,, be prepared to spend 1500-2000 for a good one. Jerry in Minnesota.

Really wish I could get one - being out of the house for about 11hrs per day during the work week, I just don't feel right leaving a dog cooped up for that long

That would of been the only time I didnt have to check before I bought something tobacco related with my wife...she would of been giddy over it..she has a tattoo of her bully with the girls names in a banner over it.....she loves them!

Re: English Bulldog returns to the AKC Top 10
My wife and I are thinking about getting one. I've only had female dogs growing up but I think I really want a male bulldog. I realize with males you may deal with "territorial issues" and I've read that females are more moody. Also, I know about the shedding, drooling, flatulence, etc. We don't yet have a fenced in back yard. Is this a huge issue? We also both work 9-5 type jobs which is the main reason I haven't pulled the trigger on one yet. What are your thoughts on all this? Any advice? Also, anyone know of a reputable English Bulldog breeder in Charlotte, NC or a surrounding area? Thanks for any input!

Haven't heard of that... Bulldogs are pretty good at being house dogs (since they're lazy). I don't know if I would trust any dog outside with no fence... Bulldogs are also sensitive to heat (say above 80 or 85), so you wouldn't want to leave them outside in the summer. Is your house air conditioned? As far as schedule.... I work at home but our bully usually sleeps from 7:30 to at least 4:00 every day. Some days he sleeps until 6. So I'm sure if he had to do so every day he probably could. They are stubborn.. We didn't have any trouble with house training, but we have given in on things like trying to keep him off the couch - just wasn't worth the continual argument. Also if you're outside walking him, and try to pull him towards you, he'll resist for no apparent reason other than the act of resisting ![]() Definitely look for a reputable breeder. Watch out for puppy mills in Russia where they want to put a puppy on a plane for you to pick up (yes, we actually came across one of these)...

Re: English Bulldog returns to the AKC Top 10
My house is air conditioned and we keep it nice and cool so that wouldn't be a problem. Obviously I'd keep him leashed when outside for walks, but a fence isn't in the budget at the moment. So bullies don't shed a lot? I guess I was wrong there. If we do get a dog, we'd have to make it work with the work schedules because I don't want to neglect the little guy. I'm prepared to deal with the stubbornness if need be, just want to make sure we don't go too long without letting him out to do his business. My wife REALLY wants a dog but I'm the type that has to get all the facts first and want to make sure he's taken care of as it'll be our first pet together.

I guess actually we do get some amount of hair on us from the dog, but it's short hair so not super noticeable unless we're wearing black. We do get slobber smears on every piece of clothing we wear with him in the room ![]() Worst case you could get a walker once a day for $10-15...

Re: English Bulldog returns to the AKC Top 10
I guess bulldogs don't shed if you brush them daily. But since we have kids we sometimes (most of the time) don't brush him so he does shed.
He does jump on the couch. I have given in but the MRS. doesn't like it. Keep him out of the heat. If he gets overheated he could have a stroke and it doesn't take long either. For them to get hot. As far as breeders the way I found my darwin was I was driving home one day and seen this Bulldog in the front yard of a house. I (not being shy) stopped and began to talk to the owner. Funny enough her dad is a breeder. So I called him and a month or two later we had a 20lb couch monster. The moral: Just ask a bulldog owner where they got their dog. Just like the dog itself we are a rare breed also.
