Re: The Great Global Warming Swindle
I have loved this movie since it came out (The Great Global Warming Swindle). It's sad to see people who get caught up in Al Gore's doomsday prophecies. Sure the Northern Icecaps are melting, but guess what? The Southern Icecaps are growing, and growing fast. Also, there is significant research to show that the Earth has been cooling since 2000. Oh and James Hanson, the media darling working for NASA admitted that he exaggerated the impact of global warming to get his voice heard. Gore says the sea levels will rise when the Icebergs melt? take a cup and fill it with ice cubes and water so that the ice cubes are over the top rim of the glass and let it melt, it doesn't overflow! Sorry, but I get really irritated, my professor, yesterday on our first day of Spring Semester says that you can't trust anyone who "denies" global warming, he should be fired. I'm the only one in class who speaks up against him, and I get questioned by other classmates "Don't you care about what we are doing to the earth and what you will be leaving your kids?". Pretty sad. Oh and it was also discovered that 1997 wasn't the warmest year in the 20th century, it was 1934, yet another lie. I'm not saying we should be dumb and pollute the environment unessicarill, but come on. First we have to ban mercury because its getting in our fish and we are ingesting them, and now our own government is going to mandate that we buy mercury filled light bulbs that cost 5 times more than a regular light bulb? Rant over.

If you ask my physics professor. If you look close enough the earth is flat.

Trying to succinctly express how I feel about this issue I came across this expression and modified it a bit. Although not perfect it does give me an inkling as to the direction of my thought.

I think more than any other reason it happens because one side, the other, or both decide it is up to them to force their opinion/version/side/issue down the throat of the other side, and then the other side objects to being called extreme/radical/right-wing/left-wing (among the nicer names that are used). Being put down because they/we exercise their/our freedom of speech and freedom of thought generally will get most people fired up. We need to remember here that just because we believe something, not everyone else believes it, nor are they required to believe it. And, refrain from name calling. Rational debates can happen, but each side has to respect the other's right to have a different opinion. That's not the same as agreeing to, or accepting the other's opinion when it differs with your own, just agreeing that the right to differing opinions exist. Sadly, this issue seems to bring opinions to the boiling point in many, and gets both sides hot under the collar. Sorry, could not resist just a little pun! |

Re: The Great Global Warming Swindle
Even if Global Warming does turn out to be a bunk theory, I still don't see how curbing our carbon emissions and being more energy efficient is a bad thing.

Can't seem to get a connection right now. Too bad because I was kinda looking forward to being called a "flat-earther"...

Re: The Great Global Warming Swindle
Im not going to question that global warming is happening. Im just wondering how much is truely mans fault and how much is the natural progression that the earth goes through. I think we highly overrate how much we actively affect the world....
Good movie Eef Thanks! |

Re: The Great Global Warming Swindle
If I hear one more person calling for Carbon Credits and curbing our Carbon Footprint I'm gonna go Ape! Seriously! For one, our carbon emissions are markedly lower than they were even 20 years ago. For two, carbon emissions simply have nothing to do with the earth's temperature. Is it any coincidence that the measured surface temperatures of both Venus and Mars and the SUN have also risen slightly over the last few years? Hmm, I think not. If you turn up the thermostat the room gets warmer. There are many outside factors that go into the earth's temperature that we have no control over and to excuse them all and attempt to lay sole blame on " excessive carbon emissions" is laughable. Laughable. Its all about politics and money... many scientists will say whatever they have to say in order to keep that grant money rolling! It just so happens that right now the arguement of choice is "global warming." Soon they'll invent some other equally catastrophic event that will kill us all if we don't do away with automatic firearms or rid the world of Transfats! Give me a break!
