The Great Global Warming Swindle

This is a documentary I found very interesting. It's a bunch of scientists and others talking about why they've rejected man-made global warming. It's great to get the other side of an issue on something like this, where the opposing view is crammed down our throats every day. I'm trying to share this with as many people as I can, because I don't think it's going to be quite as popular as "an inconvenient truth."

Re: The Great Global Warming Swindle

With all the debate, I used anecdotal evidence to make up my mind. I live near one of the great lakes. When I was a kid it used to freeze almost every winter, it doesnt anymore. In the part of kentucky my parents are from the older folks said you could kill a hog at thanksgiving hang it in an unheated smokehouse, and it would keep till easter, you can't do that anymore.

Re: The Great Global Warming Swindle

The word from the arctic is global warming is real... I don't know what caused it, man or nature but to me it does not matter. The planet is in trouble, we don't freeze up like we used to (according to the elders) the bears have no ice to hunt on so they hang out on town more... basicly we are thawing out up here. Last year ice melted that has been frozen for at least 50 years (that is how long the hamlet of Resolute has been here)

Re: The Great Global Warming Swindle

I refuse to think that our small sample size of history that they use is enough to prove anything. (seriously, most of this is based on the last 100 years or so)

Besides, there are enough lies (or half truths) in an inconvenient truth to make me a skeptic. Yeah Kilimanjaro's snow field shrunk, of course it does that every year with the seasons. Oh and they forgot to mention that the average temperature at Kilimanjaro has shown a linear decrease since 1970. Hmmm...

Re: The Great Global Warming Swindle

Whether or not there is any global change in climate is debatable, but what is totally peposterous is the notion that man can have any effect on it one way or the other.

If you look throughout history, scientists have always been predicting the end of the world due to global cooling, global warming, overpopulation, etc., etc.

Why? Because that's where the money is.

"We're all doomed, but if you give me enough grant money, I can find a way to save us."

"If we just raise taxes again, we could save the planet"

Yeah. Right.

(soapbox)
60,000 years ago you could hang your mastadon up and it wouldn't thaw for a mellinium. We have such short memories. Where I live we used to never see snow at all, anywhere. Now it's common. Nearly every year.
Before the last ice age this area was tropical rainforest. It still hasn't recovered.
You have to view climate in 500 year running averages over tens of thousands of years, otherwise your just looking at weather.
I don't care if we are warming the planet or not. It's nothing the planet hasn't done to itself countless times before. If the sea level rises, step back from it, duh! Move you house, you will have years to do it. No crisis here, take your hysterics and go home. And stay out of my money.

Because the "consensus of scientists" has never been wrong about anything...

Oh wait, I believe the term you just used for me proves that wrong. The consensus of scientists at the time believed the earth was flat. Scientists always think they have it figured out. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't, but the only thing that's for sure is that science will get better and the scientists of today will surely be wrong about a few things.

This is my point... IMHO it does not matter to me what the cause is... shy point fingers, the damage is done. And I don't think it can be fixed, while I don't think we need to add to it, we just have to learn to deal with it, and I say again... it is happening, all I have to do is look outside and I see change. But again I ramble... point is like duhman said, the world works in cycles and it always will... until our sun burns out!!

If you do not agree, that is certainly fine - and is both your right and privilege. I myself continue to consider the myriad scientific views to formulate my own opinion. You mean to tell me the earth is not flat!!!!

Damn, all this time I've been living a lie!

I prefer to make up my own mind, and not be a slave to "money science".

Man will come and go, but the earth abides.

Thanks for the link, Ethan.
