SELLERS will no longer be able to leave NEGATIVE FEEDBACK on eBay!

I thought the members here might find this interesting... I have yet to sell anything on ebay, so I am not sure how I feel about these changes.

There are five key elements to the new Feedback system being introduced in the first half of 2008:

1. Beginning in February, buyers and sellers will be able to earn up to one Feedback per week from the same trading partner. Today, members may only affect each other's Feedback scores one time, regardless of the number of transactions between the parties. This change will both encourage repeat transactions and reward good service.

2. Sellers will no longer be able to leave negative or neutral Feedback for buyers. This change will occur in May, 2008.

3. Removal of negative and neutral Feedback left by members who are suspended or who fail to respond to the Unpaid Item Process (UPI).

4. Positive Feedback percentage will be based on the past 12 months of Feedback, rather than lifetime, since it is most indicative of the seller's recent performance.

5. Restrictions on when Feedback can be left:
* Buyers must wait three days before leaving negative or neutral Feedback
* Instead of 90 days, members will be able to leave Feedback for 60 days

The one good thing about this is that sellers won't be able to leave retaliatory feedback. My only negative was from a seller that was selling CD-Rs and passing them off as rare hard to find CDs. Complete with cheaply printed liner notes as well.

Still, there has to be a way for a seller to let people know about a problem buyer.

I remember when I first joined Ebay in '99. I t was so much better without near as much fraud and idiotic rules.

Ever since that grilled cheese samich, it has been downhill.

Seller fees went down a little and gallery is free. I'll take the positive with the negative. Although, this allows buyers to leave negative feedback without fear of getting the same from the seller.

Actually, I read that in most instances the seller fees will be increased. I think overall they look like they went down, but in reality they only went down if you are selling something very expensive.

The listing fees went down but the final value fee went up quite a bit, more than making up the difference. And with only buyers being able to leave negative feedback these changes are mostly negative for sellers.

This makes me happy... I got a seller now who is holding back on 2 feedback with the threat of neg, if I don't retract my neutral feedback. I think I am going to have to contact eBay.

I think it is a good thing. I am getting tired of bidding on an item, paying for it and waiting a week and get a message that the item is no longer carried.

I don't like it. Sold some concert tickets last year, and the buyer never paid. Searched and found out he bought a second pair of tickets days later for $10 less. I got my seller fees back, but ate a pair of $100 tickets. At least I like to be able to let future sellers know that the guy is a POS.

That's the problem. I've had many deadbeat buyers who never pay or explain why they're backing out. Then I'm stuck with the fees for the sale. The process for getting some of the fees back is grueling, and you don't get them all back. Negative feedback was the only way to alert other sellers about these buyers.

Meanwhile sellers can still be dinged. I had someone ding me because they thought it took too long for their item to arrive. I shipped it in less than 24 hrs. and Fed Ex Ground (it was a heavy item) had it on their doorstep across the country in 4 days.

Ridiculous. My girlfriend regularly sells old clothes of hers on eBay, and practically every other sale has some joker saying (after payment and delivery): "Oh it doesn't fit me properly, I want a full refund and I don't want the hassle of sending the item back"

Sellers aren't the only scammers.

I have been an eBay member since 2003 and I can't understand what they are thinking now. I actually do look at feedback for sellers. I look and see what has been left, then I check the feedback of the person who left negative for the seller. Seeing some of your comments on here (about buyers backing out) I don't think it's fair that a seller can't leave negative feedback. If you aren't going to pay for it, don't bid. As Icehog said, getting stiffed on $100 tickets because someone decided to get them for $10 elsewhere is . I have bought many an item over the years and have always paid in a timely manner. Taking away the opportunity for sellers to leave negative feedback hurts both sellers and buyers who are looking for reputable sellers and sales.

When I first started selling on eBay I always left feedback when I shipped the item. I wait now until I receive feedback because of the number of buyers who threatened negative feedback. I sold antiques and condition is subjective. Also buyers would return items and not return the item shipped. This will create more problems for the seller. eBay is not what is was in 1999-2002. I could make money with antiques but now the margins are to low. I've also gotten lazy and don't want to work every night.
