I have a question for a CS Doctor

My little brother is having liver problems, and I don’t quite understand what’s going on. I am hoping someone can shed a little light for me. He has had liver enzyme test done the first one was 168 then a week later it is 240. There are a lot of stuff that he did when he was younger that may have finally caught up to him. Is this something we should really worry about? Also he has tested negative for hepatitis which was the doctor’s first concern. Another thing that bothers me a little is that it took his family doctor a month to finally send him to a specialist.

I'm not a Dr., but I have some knowledge on the subject. There should be more numbers than one. There is AST, ALT and Alkaloid Phosphates, he should also have an ACE done in his next blood work panel. PM me for a more detailed convo. as this isn't the place for it.

Re: I have a question for a CS Doctor

I know a guy that had a problem with his liver enzymes. He quit drinking for three months and they went back to normal. His doc did send him right away to a gastrowhatever doctor when the blood tests came back so, don't know what to say about your brother's phisycian.

The liver can heal itself for the most part, but extended abuse of alcohol and/or drugs can cause lasting damage. Everybody is different though. I have a great uncle who is a WWII vet who smoked almost everyday of his adult life and still does, he's in fine health for an 80 something.

The again, I'm no doctor...

Good luck to your brother.

Re: I have a question for a CS Doctor

I would have him f/u with GI...without knowing his situation (past) it soulds like elevated AST/ALT or both. Is he on a statin for cholesterol? Could be non-alcoholic steatohepatosis if he's not drinking anymore. Any jandice? PM if you;d like, I will try to help
