Converting PC fan to AC?
How would one go about this? the oust fan is useless in my humi.
Can i just get a DC converter plug and hard wire it to the fan? I have a ton of these stupid things hanging around so im trying not to buy an AC one if I dont have to. Anybody done this? |

Re: Converting PC fan to AC?
there's some threads on this somewhere on the site w/info on how to do this-short answer though is yes you can splice a DC converter to a PC fan-if you're a tiny bit handy, you can wire the circuit board from the oust fan in between so the fan doesn't run constantly-the other option is to use an external timer-hope this helps

Re: Converting PC fan to AC?
if your DC converter (wall wart) is 12 volts, you could just hook it to a 12v computer fan (what are they 8 or 12 bucks?) and leave it on all the time. Or time it if you want. I can't imagine that would be very expensive to run all the time. the brushless ones put out negligible heat, I think. Many guys have put the computer fans in their humis and are bound to chime in on this.

Re: Converting PC fan to AC?
if you use over the 1.5 volts it was designed for, it will fry, like the guy that put one inside the cigar box.Is your dc converter 1.5 volts?
