Re: Someone just broke into my car...

I've left my GPS attached to its mount accidentally a couple of times at work and half expected to come out at the end of the day to a broken window.

Some jerk off did break a window on my car last year to steal a duffel bag that was on the floor in the back seat. And what did this MENSA member get away with? Dirty gym clothes. He/She obviously didn't take the time to look inside before taking it.

You should get another GPS and program in the location of the first GPS so you remember where it is.

Supposedly we have security too, but the only guy I've seen is this ancient man who sits in this car with lights on top and yells at people who park where they shouldn't. I think another car in the lot got broken into as well. This just makes my day. Anyways, I'm kind of all over they place right now as a result and just felt like venting a bit.

Also, if you have a gps in your car...leave attached to your front windshield at your own risk. I'm one of those who generally believes in the good of mankind and trusts people, but this definitely kind of makes you wonder. People told to watch out and sure enough...my gamble did not pay off.

Same thing happened to my friend his dumb ass left it in the car in Brooklyn thats a no no. I am glad that My gps system is built into the car. Get an A8 or Range.

My car got broken into in Boston last year when I went up for the St. Patties Day Dropkick Murphys Show.

Lost my Digital SLR, Ipod and a bunch of sam adams swag.

Re: Someone just broke into my car...

From today's Yahoo news.

Quote:
Here are a few tips that can help keep your GPS in your possession,

Hide the goods
Most reported thefts are from people who left their GPS mount and system in plain sight, so it's important to hide both pieces in your trunk or glove compartment when you get out of the car. You might also want to keep other gadgets, like iPods, out of sight to keep thieves at bay.

Wipe down the windshield
GPS devices use suction cups that leave big rings on the windshield. Even if you hide your system, you run the risk of becoming a target unless you wipe off the telltale suction marks. Pack a few wet towelettes, and when the ring becomes noticeable, wipe down your windshield.

Alternatively, mount the device on your dashboard to keep it out of direct sight and to avoid the windshield rings.

Take it with you
If you value your GPS so much, take it with you when you leave the car. It may be hugely inconvenient, but you at least get to keep your system-even if thieves break in.

Note your serial number...
...And keep it handy, in case your GPS does get stolen. Many times the police are able to recover stolen items, so you'll need some sort of proof that you're the owner. You might want to take a photo, too, for reference.

Mountable GPS systems are especially risky, because they're easy to spot when you don't take them down. The best thing you can do to secure your system is to buy one that's in-dash with a retractable screen.

Re: Someone just broke into my car...

Even if you remove the GPS from the mount, the fact that the mount is still there is enough for some people to break in and look for it. Leaving it in the glove compartment really isn't enough. You need to take it with you, and/or remove the mount from the windshield as well.

My dad used to live in NYC a few years ago, and there was a TON of vehicles being broken into and their radios stolen. Someone put a sign on the dash that said "no radio in car". They broke into the car and wrote "NO $HIT"...

Smash and grab is a real easy thing for thieves. Don't ever leave anything in plain sight in your vehicle that you don't want stolen. Sad commentary on life in America. When stationed in the Middle East, it was common practice for anyone who drove on base to lock their vehicle for fear of stuff being stolen. Same vehicle out in town could be left unlocked, windows/tops down with no fear. What's the difference? Over there they cut off the hand of thieves.

Cutting a few hands off sure would keep the world a lot more pleasant for those of us who obey the law,I'm in agreement that maybe cutting the hand off is a little extreme but having work on a chain gang cleaning up the road for a year might clean up their act

By the way I lost an escort radar dector years ago caught the bastage and the pleaded to the judge that he needed luch money for their kids the Judge let him go fee as a bird and then the scum bag jumped into a new firebird, pissed me off BIG TIME.
