Someone just broke into my car...

Yep, right in my office parking lot and they took my gps, luckily I didn't have really anything in my car worth taking, though it would have been funny if they tried to steal my bowling ball; I'd love to see a guy running away with that. Supposedly we have security too, but the only guy I've seen is this ancient man who sits in this car with lights on top and yells at people who park where they shouldn't. I think another car in the lot got broken into as well. This just makes my day. Anyways, I'm kind of all over they place right now as a result and just felt like venting a bit.

Also, if you have a gps in your car...leave attached to your front windshield at your own risk. I'm one of those who generally believes in the good of mankind and trusts people, but this definitely kind of makes you wonder. People told to watch out and sure enough...my gamble did not pay off.

Re: Someone just broke into my car...

That sucks brother .. happened to me last year. Slit the roof & sounded the alarm when they tried to open the door. Didn't take a damn thing, either ... just left a big gaping hole above my head. Had to have the entire top redone.

Whaohwell .. that's what insurance is for, I suppose.

I'm not sure exactly when it was stolen in the parking lot, but:

* report it immediately to your insurance carrier;
* notify the police to take a report;
* you may want to check the area for any video surveilance that monitors the parking lot and surrounding areas. Maybe the suspects or suspects vehicle will have been captured digitally for law enforcements review;
* possibly, can the GPS be GPS'd for current location? Your brand of GPS may have a website with a telephone number for customer service/security that could advise you of this function;

Just a thought and sorry to hear about the breakin...

Re: Someone just broke into my car...

Sorry to hear about your lose I have had far to much experience with theft.

I used to own nice new cars, but they would always get broken into. I had to replace every window on my last new car. So I decided that If I didn't own anything worth stealing I would be fine. As if. I got myself a POS van and someone stole it Dec 24 2006. I got it back 3 days later full of cigarette butts, fast food bags, no radio and sounding like they drove it 100mph in low gear. I still haven't put a radio back in it.

In the work parking lot! Really nice! I think I might make a bit of a fuss about security!

Second what Brother Mark suggests you do!

Sad thing is, even if they catch the scum, nothing will happen to it!

So much for trust in your fellow man! Sad, indeed!

Re: Someone just broke into my car...

We were just talking about this last week....we have had almost 125 car burglaries for GPS systems in my town since Jan 1. Sorry you were a victim, I know it sucks.

For anyone who leaves their car outside at home or at work, or even at the mall...detatch the part of the unit you can and put it in your glove box, trunk, or inside with you. This trend shows no sign of getting better.

As a rule you should never, ever leave valuables visible in your car. There was a recent incident here in the UK reported in the news where someone stole the GPS out of an expensive car, used the "Home" function to find out where they lived then burglarized the house. Not worth the risk!

Re: Someone just broke into my car...

Tough lesson to learn. I (re)learned it last summer when a radar detector and my favorite Dorfman-Pacific panama hat was thieved from my car. Now I never mount anything to the windshield, and tuck the GPS unit either out of sight, in the glove box, under the seat, or it goes into my pocket or laptop bag. This summer, I will try to get into the habit of stashing that stuff in the trunk, each time, every time.

Hell of a hat, shame about the ugly dude that used to wear it. I was more ticked about the damn hat than the $100 radar detector.

That's what I do with my GPS and stereo face plate, I lock my glove box and have never had any issues. Thieves are the scum of the earth, only second to pedophiles.

Sorry you got jacked, bro.

j/k Actually, a nice looking hat, bro. Always strikes me as odd when people steal personal clothing items. Friend of mine was doing his laundry in a laundromat some years ago... and somebody stole his clothes from the dryer when he went to the can.
Stealing somebody's underwear is pretty extreme.

Re: Someone just broke into my car...

Sorry to hear about that. Back in the day when I was a cop, when and if I caught them I used to make clean the car for the unlucky owner, that is until the judge told me to stop. Then I began bringing the car down to the station to have the prisoners clean it when they were on yard detail. The warden backed me up on that one. Hope you catch the bastages.
