No bootleggers in my family but apparently my grandfather ran coke from Mexico.

Yeah, that sucks. You can't pick your relatives.

Re: Famous Relatives???

Related to Jesse James and most of that clan, distant cousins I think, I would have to go and get the stuff, my great grandmother traced all that stuff back years ago.

Re: Famous Relatives???

Totally forgot about my Uncle Frank Buchannan. Only a hardcore bluegrass fan would even have heard of him. He was one of Bill Monroe's Bluegrass Boys from '61-'63. Also, Raymond Fairchild used to be like family. Havn't seen him in along time. He is one of, if not, the best banjo pickers in the world.

"It was during the middle 1960s that Raymond first attempted to take his music to the public. By this time he had moved from Cherokee to Maggie Valley, North Carolina and had found a receptive audience at "The Hillbilly Campground," located in Maggie. For over twelve years Raymond played for tips next to the road that ran in front of the campground. He was often joined by Roy Mull on guitar, Frank Buchannan (who had earlier recorded with Bill Monroe) on guitar and mandolin, the late Wilford Messer on fiddle, and Buck Duncan on bass. According to Raymond, they'd play on the corner and really pull the cars in. Raymond remembers playing seven days a week in front of the campground from eight in the morning until midnight."

Taken from here.

I remember going to the Hillbilly Campground when I was young. Wish I knew what great musicians I was in the company of.

Re: Famous Relatives???

My claim to fame: Distant cousins on my Dad's side are the Wright brothers, and the other claim to fame is a famous Scottland yard detective named Wee Willie Marilees, whom was the model for the character Sherlock Holmes. Most of my family is Irish and they ran all the flour mills on the Great Lakes. They also helped build the Panama Canal! :-) I don't make a very good Irishman though cause I can't drink.
