Has anyone ever broken a ski boot?

So I busted my left boot today! I broke the third buckle (counting from the top of the boot to the toe) clean off, can you believe that crap?! I don't even know how I did it; I looked down while I was waiting for the chair and it was just hanging there. I didn't fall at all today, but I was skiing pretty hard; maybe my fat butt was too much for the boot on one of the landings. Oh well, those Nordicas were a little too mushy anyhow. That was an unplanned expense, but I'm going with some Langes. Now I have to go through the pain (literal pain!) of trying to get the new ones to fit right- custom footbed and at least three trips back to the shop for punching/grinding.

Could be worse...my boss spent the weekend at sugarbush and killington and broke his ass. Took up skiing 10 years ago and decided at 57 to do double diamonds to show up his 20 year old son.

Don't recall ever breaking a boot, but I did bend a ski once.

No broken bones, but he aint moving much. Tried a good sized jump at Killington and blew it, then landed on the same spot two more times at Sugarbush after hitting ice.

His pride, however, had a pretty bad break.

Haha, that'll do it. That northeastern ice is nasty stuff man! Pak- I've never warped a ski before, how did you do that?

Yeah, I know. I learned early on that I was big, goofy, and far from graceful...so I stuck to football and lacrosse and left the skiing to the coordinated folks out there.

Glad it was your boot and not your apendages!

Hog, the appendages are good, but I've heard Brokeboot isn't really my scene!

I've learned from personal experience that one's tibia and fibula will break before the ski boot does

Of course I watched the OSU game. That first half hurt worse than a compound fracture. The second half looked up a little, but couldn't overcome the horrors of the first. Darrell needs to stay off the bench (quit making stupid fouls), hopefully Sherron will heal up soon and be back to 100% and Self needs to have a "come to Jesus" meeting with Rush, Robinson and Chalmers about stepping it up and supporting a team.

I think things will start to look up from here, but that might just be because I'm an unfailing Jayhawk optimist.

Re: Has anyone ever broken a ski boot?

I put my boots on in the parking lot and walk to the ticket counter. One time, on the way over, I felt something wrong and looked down and saw a crack on the side of my boot. By the time I got to the lodge my boots had both disintegrated. They were about 12 years old.
I also had a plastic binding explode the spring out of it while stored during off season.

Wow, you had two boot explosions! I guess that's to be expected with 12 year old boots though; UV rays and stress affects that plastic over time. Mine were only 2 years old, but I had about 60 or so days on them. I just picked up a new pair of Rossi B squad composites and had Surefoot do a bunch of work to them. The new wheels are sweet! BTW, Mike, tonight the baby Jays are going to roll Iowa State!
