See now, I have no idea where you are going with this. You have quoted a liberal source, without commenting on where you stand on the issue. Without those comments, the assumption made is that you agree with the comments, which would make them your words. I happen to think the source you quote, and their comments are complete and utter .

My stance is not pro-global warming, because I have too many unanswered questions on counter-indications that the global warming "scientists" cannot, or will not answer. Until and unless those issues are resolved in my mind, I will remain unconvinced that we are in a "crisis", or that a "crisis" is imminent. I have stated this opinion on this issue several times in the past, without any attempts at hiding my position.

If you are quoting the article because you agree with it, then stand up and say you agree with it. If you are quoting the article because you think it , then you should say so. Then it is you disagreeing with the article, and NOT you calling conservatives wingnut bullshitters.

i edited mike's last post to take out some "personal opinion".

i'm going to close this thread because i don't see it going anywhere.

you're all free to read the original article as well as the actual NCDC report and form your own opinions.

Re: Warming over, Ice age on its way

I guess I come down on the side of caution with global warming. I think it is being overblown by many i.e. y2k. However, there are many reasons to "go green" as we are being encouraged to do. The most obvious is we must break our dependence on carbon based fuels. Oil is concentrated in areas of the world that are not particularly friendly to the US and is a primary pollutant.

My request to the Global Warming folks is to not assume that all skeptics are idiots and to the people that think it is -there is enough evidence to suggest we should be working to eliminate our emissions and take care of our planet. As with most issues the truth is somewhere between the extremes.

Re: Warming over, Ice age on its way

I belive the global warming issue is severly hyped up by certain organizations. That said, there is no doubt we as humans are doing some bad things to the planet. However, the Earth's climates have cycles and back in the 80's all of the celebs were up in arms about a possible second Ice Age. Recently, of course, it has been all about global warming. I think we need to control some of our wasteful and destructive habits, however, getting caught up in the hype of anything Al Gore says is not necessarily the answer (although he did invent the internet ).

Re: Warming over, Ice age on its way

Long before man arrived on this planet, there was this area filled with ice/water.
It contained lots of dirt, rocks and other minerals due to the soft soil, that acted as sandpaper.
It was projected to have been as large as one third of the size of the United States.
In time, it receded and ended up as a river.
As the river flowed with all this sediment, it continued to carve away, making an incredible sculpture that many, many, many years later, man would call the Grand Canyon.
Today, that body of water is a spit in a bucket compared to what it once was, long before man arrived on earth to destroy it.

I bet there must be some way to link that to man and if not, how does one explain that "global warming" so many, many, many years ago?

Oh, that is right, it took one post.

Amazing!
Because global warming is a political issue, not a scientific one.

Science is merely the vehicle used to propogate the myth.

As was the Wisconsin Glacier, which covered darn near a third of the U.S. and most of central Canada a mere 15-20,000 years ago. A veritable blink on the geological time scale.

If I may venture a hypothesis, I believe it was mastadon farts and the methane contained within that caused the demise of the last great ice age.

Re: Warming over, Ice age on its way

There once was a time when talking about the weather was the most innocuous conversation one could have to socialize and past the time...now it ranks right up there with politics and religion. Interesting indeed!

Never mind me...carry-on.

Indeed. But they're cycles. They're not massive, abrupt crashes. The change is not unprecedented. The rate of change is. That's really beyond dispute. That data from arctic core samples dates back hundreds of thousands of years. There's nothing remotely like this in the record. Not even close. We're talking orders of magnitude.

Ahh, reductionist arguments. We've hit the end of intelligent discussion.

ahh, a personal attack instead of a reasoned argument. we've hit the end of civil discussion. try not to be so condescending and stick to the facts, at least the facts as you see them.
you see the problem with all the science on the side of man-made global warming and the dire predictions for the future is that it is incomplete. before any true scientific theory is developed and accepted it first must be tested many times. this has not been done and can not be done effectively with something as large and complex as the earth's environment. we of course have computer models but they vary 400%, so we have no actual proof. without actual proof, those who fervently believe in an impending crisis are left with only faith that what they believe is true. (ironic, in that so many of these same people are scientists that criticize those who rely on faith in other areas of life) when a belief system is based on faith it becomes akin to a religion and thus the fervor and apocalyptic predications that we have with those supporting the idea of man-made climate change.

...and of course the reason we have a discussion of the weather that can quickly digress into a religious/political type of argument instead of a civil discussion/disagreement.
