How ironic.
Just got this from a friend in New Hampshire who has no clue whatsoever this thread even exists and with whom I have not discussed the subject at all.

You will get a kick out of this one being in Florida. Concord NH snow fall records have this year over 100 inches. Makes it the 2nd highest and they are looking for the record to be broken this year. We are on the coast and have not accumulated the 100 inches and the mountains have exceeded that. Of course the ski lodges are in their glory. This time last year we had only 19 inches of total snow.

Faith is a belief in the absence of evidence, or in the face of evidence. There is plenty of evidence at hand in this case.

Also, weather (and climate) is about the most chaotic system one can deal with. So to say you only accept the theory if researchers can predict precisely what will happen everywhere is an unreasonable standard. The prediction is that things are changing, and that change is going to be bad for the status quo.

It is human arrogance at its pinnacle to think that us little bitty humanoids scurrying about this planet can do anything at all to influence the climate.

When Mount St. Helens blew it's top several years ago it spewed more tons of gases, ash and other crap into the atmosphere than the human race has since the advent of the Industrial Revolution. (something I read in Scientific American). If what Al Gore is talking about holds true, we should be already sweltering in abysmal heat and gasping for a breath of cool air. Or, in another ice age, depending which school of thought is most currently fashionable. What we did get as a result of the eruption was some fantastic sunsets.

evidence that the earth has warmed since 1850? yes
evidence that man is causing and heading for a climate disaster? it's just not there.
it is a belief which you hold and because of your faith in that belief i, nor anyone else will convince you otherwise. that's fine for you and others who believe the same and i have no problem with anyone who believes in abrupt climate change.... until they start coming for my wallet, my freedoms, and my way of life in the name of something I just don't share their faith in.

As we won't convince each other of our beliefs, smokey, I propose that we both light up a nice stick and enjoy a little of nature burning. (i replaced 3 incandescents with compact fluorescents this month that should give us both enough carbon credits to enjoy a couple smokes)

Let's blame it on the Chinese then.
They outnumber us all.

Totally agree.
However, the point from my perspective is that freaking out over it is not going to change things.
I alone am not going to change things.
I can hide in a closet for the next 50 years and I still won't change things.
This issue, no doubting it exists to some degree or another, just not sure how bad personally, is bigger than all of us.

Being the good citizen I am, from my end, I intend to do the following:
drive my cars less (being able to now work from home really helps that commitment)
convince relatives and friends to change their bulbs as tnip did and I did,
smoke less cigars/exhale less (OK maybe not that one)
fart less (wife would be pleased),
eat less so I therefore waste less
walk in the dark at home more often to save energy and bang into things along the way while the rest of the world continues to use it.

I hope I have addressed all the things I can personally do to comply with my fair share and I hope I have not left out anything.
In the meantime, onward with my row boat business.

P.S.
I am pleased to share #55 is spoken for but many still available, with choice of color per below.

It's all about the science. And more scientist think "global warming" is a wild hoax than not. Here is some real science for you.

"Over the past year, anecdotal evidence for a cooling planet has exploded. China has its coldest winter in 100 years. Baghdad sees its first snow in all recorded history. North America has the most snowcover in 50 years, with places like Wisconsin the highest since record-keeping began. Record levels of Antarctic sea ice, record cold in Minnesota, Texas, Florida, Mexico, Australia, Iran, Greece, South Africa, Greenland, Argentina, Chile -- the list goes on and on........................

More science here: http://www.dailytech.com/Temperature...ticle10866.htm

"Scientists quoted in a past DailyTech article link the cooling to reduced solar activity which they claim is a much larger driver of climate change than man-made greenhouse gases."

I just caught part of a show on the History Channel about global warming and climate change and they brought up the point that Galileo linked climate change to sunspots over 900 years ago. Then there was another gentleman ( I didn't catch his name or what year) that linked the change in global temperature to the gravitational pull of the suns and other planets causing the earth's poles to slightly alter position.

It's human arrogance at its pinnicle to think that altering lifestyle just a little bit is too big a price to pay for generations to follow.

Just because you want something not to be true doesn't make it so.
