if you want to go through the hassle you could consider ebay.
I bought one of the first Intel iMacs with the Solo core. A year later they came out with the Core Duo. Sold the first one on ebay for a surprisingly good price, bought the new one for something like 200 more.
Yeah I had to put money into it, but not nearly as much as I was expecting...
You guys that take those screws off the back panel have all my respect.
I don't have the cojones for that, at least while still under warranty.
I still have the tags on my mattress and pillows that say don't remove under penalty of law.

before they even announced that they were giving everyone $100.00

You wanted a Mac and you got a Mac...

I am Windows guy, so any jabs I can make at Apple, I make them.

If that were a non-Apple product, you'd get bigger HD and double the RAM. I think it's crazy to buy any laptop for 1k+ without 4 GB RAM.

No disassembly required - I sold the whole computer

Why 4GB?
Sure it would be nice, but I've never had 4GB on any of my computers, laptop or otherwise, and I use them all day every day with tons of apps running.

Maybe you mean for playing games, or video editing?

Candidly, being in both Windows and Apple environments right now, I have to say that without a doubt, the Apple surpasses Windows, for my personal needs.

It truly is a very nice product.
The screen.
The programs like iMovie and iPhoto.
The iLife like iWeb.
The tutorials for just about everything that literally teaches you as if you were in a classroom.
The ease of use as it functions as one would expect (for example, to delete a program, delete it. Done. Try that with Windows?)

I guess the price to pay is they deal with changes/updates a bit different than the norm.
I am just venting but truly have no regrets over purchasing it and owing it for the next 36 months. (same as cash of course)

I can't help but find it deceitful to be frank with you.

If they would have taken $100 off, I wouldn't feel as I do.
How can one not help but feel cheated?
Technology is always changing and improving in this business and you will never be up to date but again, you generally see the older version go down in price as the newer one prepares to enter.
Maybe it's me. Chit happens.
Just doesn't feel right for it to happen to you within 30 days of purchase.
Yup, this is Apple, but as mmblz said, all computer makers do this, I think it's just more obvious with Apple. I don't think you'd notice the speed bump, you'll probably end up with an external drive anyway and those are cheap now, and 1 gig of ram is under $50 so the $100 you mentioned probably would have been a fair discount.

You've written to them, so see what they say. If you explained all the trouble you had you might get a response. They have a special customer care group that handles things like this and despite what some think of Apple they do seem to care if a customer is legitimately unhappy. I had a problem with my 20" iMac, and after a few attempts at fixing it they just replaced it. When the new one arrived it had a problem too so they immediately replaced it without bothering to troubleshoot it. During this time the model had been upgraded and they sent me the new model. I've had similar good service experiences with an iPod and an iBook, both of which I bought used (with Applecare) and were replaced or fixed quickly and without hassle.

I hope you get a response you like but in the end you have a great machine you sounded happy with once the software issues were solved.

Not all computer companies screw you on price like apple. I could get a windows based laptop right with far better specs than the new MBP for cheaper lol. I guess that's kinda why I haven't gone apple yet. I want to, I just can't justify the cost. Mac OS is nice, but i've gotten used to Vista. And when Vista has me down I knock around with linux.

I guess the screwing is in the eye of the beholder. I have a windows based laptop with Vista for work and 3 Macs for personal use. The laptop was about half the price of my Mac laptop and has way better specs on paper, but for me it's a pain to use and the Mac never gives me the kind of headaches I get with the PC.

If Macs actually cost more I find them to be worth the extra money. It's kind of like the Aristocrat vs. Vinotemp thread - both work and some are happy with their Vinotemp and wouldn't consider spending the extra for an Aristocrat. Others find the Aristocrat worth the extra money and couldn't be happier. For what I use a computer for, Apple makes a better, more stable and easier to use product. I'm not knocking PC's, I just don't enjoy using them and to me price is not as important as the user experience.
