Introducing the new MacBook Pro and new MacBook...........

So I get an email from Apple telling me this.
Somehow, I knew I was going to be upset.
I bought my MacBook in December but about 30 days ago, I had it exchanged and upgraded to the Black version of the MacBook for the larger hardrive.

Well, the new one is the same price of $1,499 BUT you get a 2.4 processor instead of 2.2.
You now get a 250 GB HD instead of a 160.
You now get 2 GB Ram instead of 1.

Man that bugs me to have missed that bus.
Why didn't they discount the older version if they knew they were doing this?

Welcome to Apple Carlos, that is just how they work. You really need to follow the mac rumors or know when things might be coming out, But even the rumors can be wrong so basically always expect that something newer will come out within 6 months of you buying the then latest version. I know that if you buy things within a few weeks of something being released you can upgrade, but beyond that they really just come out with new stuff without really telling anybody

Jim,
Life is unfair but that is one lousy way of doing business.
I just wrote to the corporation.
I can't help but find it deceitful to be frank with you.
Most companies know when a new release is coming and they discount the current version.
If they would have taken $100 off, I wouldn't feel as I do.
How can one not help but feel cheated?
Technology is always changing and improving in this business and you will never be up to date but again, you generally see the older version go down in price as the newer one prepares to enter.
Maybe it's me. Chit happens.
Just doesn't feel right for it to happen to you within 30 days of purchase.

If they send you a shiny new one, I get dibs on your "once you go black you never go back" unit.

Don't bank on it.
Doubt they will even respond to my email.

DING, DING, DING!!!!

Give that man a cigar!

My Best Buy policy is an "anything happens", even dropping it in a pool, which I am lucky to have one at home.
Would just need for all the older ones to clear the market first.

I was just about to suggest this as well as your way to "stick it to the man" Apple has just always been like this, and I know that unless you bought something within a few weeks of the new release you are basically SOL, as they say. Happened to me with the release of the version of the macbook you have, as I had the previous one.

Trust me, my consolation here is Freud's Theory of Projection.
I know I am sure as heck not alone, specially just post the Christmas season.
So, if anything, I am one amongst many.

Worse yet I suppose is to remember that $2,500 Dell I bought that is now a $300 computer on a good day, obsolete on a bad one.
Cost of technology as it is ever changing.

Re: Introducing the new MacBook Pro and new MacBook...........

It's not that huge of a bump.
I bought both my MBP and MB before this update and it's such a small bump, I'm not even going to sweat it. Until they do a case redesign or something of the like, I'm going to stick with what I have. After all, they're both much faster machines then I really need at the moment. I'm hoping they'll last me 3 years or so.

Re: Introducing the new MacBook Pro and new MacBook...........

Definitely understand the frustration Carlos.
Just to play devil's advocate though (and I don't know the answer either):
Do you think other companies really handle this differently?
Or is Apple just the visible example because people crave the latest and greatest so much
And let's say they did drop the price of the existing one in advance of announcing the new one - what about people who bought just before the price drop - now they will want a refund...

Just food for thought, I don't know what the answer is, and I'm not trying to imply that you're wrong or anything like that...

All good points Julian.
Not easy to draw that line in the sand.
I guess the sticky part for me is the price.
One is use to and accepts you buy something today for "x" dollars and then find it discounted a week later or a month later.
That is normal and easy to digest.
Somehow the Apple example maintaining the same price plays differently in my mind.
Hey, water under the bridge.
Only thing I will miss out on is that extra HD as very useful for movies.
My boss bitched me out this morning so Apple seemed like the logical progression of crap rolling downhill.

On a positive note, I did enjoy their Leopard tour very much.
I really learned so much about it that I had no clue of.
Apple does a very good job with its tutorials and are very beneficial.
I guess they get the money for it by keeping the price the same on the old version v. the new one.

So far I've only been using Leopard for testing, haven't made it my main OS yet...

Re: Introducing the new MacBook Pro and new MacBook...........

btw, one thing i forgot to add...

if you want to go through the hassle you could consider ebay.
I bought one of the first Intel iMacs with the Solo core. A year later they came out with the Core Duo. Sold the first one on ebay for a surprisingly good price, bought the new one for something like 200 more.
Yeah I had to put money into it, but not nearly as much as I was expecting...
