Sheriff Joe Arpaio! http://www.sheriffjoe.org/ If you don't like the jail, then don't come back!

Seems like some are saying we should let the criminal go free, have a big group hug and sing songs. We are a nation of laws. Laws are created to protect our freedoms. Break the law, do the time.

Ones opinion about criminals may change when you have become the victim.
Sheriff Joe is the man.
Read about him a while ago. Great philosophy on the way things should be done.

Thanks for the great answers to my post about what should happen. I gotta leave the house now but will get back to that later. Interesting comments also from the people working in the system. I appreciate learning something.

Re: 1 in 100 Americans are in Prison or Jail

Many of the proposals and comments here absolutely AMAZE me!! So many of You must lead very sheltered lives.

Theres a small percentage of the criminal element that will NEVER change. You can attempt rehabilitation all You wish....they will still be predators. THOSE are the people that fit the death penalty perfectly.

The vast majority of our prisons are nothing more than holding facilities allowing the population to "network" with other criminals. Doing time in the US is certainly not a vacation. But the inmates should be required to WORK as well as learn a trade/get some education.

Gun control is not crime control. The bad guys ALWAYS have guns, as they steal them from citizens or get them from other Criminals. The mere presence of a weapon will often stop an assault or home invasion. The Liberal press seldom reports it. ANY of You who have been the victim of an assault, robbery, home invasion, sexual assault....in retrospect...would You have liked to have had a weapon at that time?? I'd bet so.

I'd rather keep my teeth (guns) and be a sheepdog than be one of the SHEEP.

And I was a sheepdog, for thirty two years in Law Enforcement. Saw a lot of pain, sorrow, blood and death. Theres a reason that 1% of the population is incarcerated. We didn't FAIL them, they failed themselves and Society in general. They chose the easy way out. They chose to follow a path thats counter to everything WE hold sacred.
Given the opportunity to HELP someone the majority of us will assist them. The 1%'ers given that opportunity will PREY on the less fortunate.

Oversimplifications are an easy way out but I'll give You one....What part do ATTORNEYS/ACLU play in this problem? Given an offender who is OBVIOUSLY guilty their job should be monitoring the sentence to see that it's within reason for the crime commited....NOT coming up with a technicality or playing to a handpicked jury to get the criminal off. Remember OJ Simpson? IF any one thinks he was innocent I have some swamp land to sell You.

Gangs are a huge problem to society. Can LEO's single them out and do everything within their power to crush them? NO.....thats PROFILING. Thank the ACLU types for THAT.

I didn't want to start on this topic at all... I'll end before I REALLY get worked up....
