3G iPhone to be released by Mid-Year

3G iPhone To Include Infineon Chip, Launch By Mid-Year: UBS

German chipmaker Infineon Technologies AG (IFX) likely will be supplying the new systems solution to Apple Inc.'s (AAPL) next-generation iPhone, UBS analysts told clients in a note published Thursday.


The broker said this isn't yet the consensus view and could be a positive catalyst for the stock. UBS also believes that 3G-enabled iPhones will be released by mid-year, and that the current EDGE iPhone platform is being ramped down earlier than expected to "clean" inventories.

Me too, I've been looking more into iPhones recently, but I'm definitely going to hold out and wait for these. I can't wait, my phone is going down hill quite quickly... Now I'm excited!

I am no tech geek by any means, but are you not able to receive emails like you can with other phones (i.e. Blackberry, Windows Mobile)? I see folks all the time reading email on theirs.

having the internet at your fingertips is a curse though, i can't pull myself away from CS

I may upgrade. I really like the long battery life of my phone, if the 3g taps taps too hard into it i'm not touching it. I'm surrounded by wireless hotspots, the edge network hasn't been too much of a complaint for me so far.

I have both the Curve and the IPhone.

The only thing the Iphone is a toy not a phone for someone with very high usage and who uses in excess of 5000 minutes a month. This thing is realy cool but definately cant stand up to the wear and tear the Blackberry does.

I will probably upgrade. I love toys and thats what this phone is. My daughter will get this one as she keeps bugging me everyday for it anyway.

It is compatable assuming the exchange server in question has POP or IMAP enabled.

I was referring to the calendar and task list features of Outlook. Even though the iPhone has a calendar, it would be nice to be able to sync it with my Outlook calendar. The task list would be nicer IMO though. Well, maybe one day!
