A friend sent me the following clip of the latest modification to the Su-30 Russian Fighter.

Alongside the clip I originally thought the originator was being a bit alarmist. I admit the canards and vectored nozzles seemed to be an advantage but still.

So, I googled a bit and found this reposted from Aviation Week.
This article was based on the original design without the canards.

It seems that earlier models of the SU-30 didn't have the canard. Additionally, some models do not have the vector nozzles.

"Su-30MKK and 24 navalised Su-30MK2 aircraft, which do not have thrust vectoring capability, (or canards) are in service with the Chinese Air Force."

Time for a new US Fighter.

The F-22 and the upcoming F-35 are leaps and bounds ahead of any fighter aircraft in the world. I think with the recent string of F-15 crashes the Air Force will get more attention paid to their aging fleet.

The F-22 can vector thrust up and down I believe. While the F-35 has full thrust vectoring, and is also a STOVL aircraft.

I don't see the problem F15C is old, I don't like all this tests the real test is what counts.
Even in the F15 series there's the F15E that is newer than the C.

Though I thought that plane was being phased out already as the F-22 comes online.

But, in the scheme of things the E model is not an single seat air superiority fighter, but a two seat all weather strike fighter (what used to be known as a fighter-bomber). Yes, it carries air-to-air weaponry, but more so for the defensive mode, rather than an offensive platform. It too carries conformal fuel tanks that would & do reduces manueverablility in air-to-air role.

When considering the F-15 v Su-30, the E model (and its variants) cannot be considered in the mix.

Don't forget that training also figures in the equation! The F-22 will/is replacing the F-15. The F-35 will replace the F-16/18/Harrier. Eventually it will be mostly UAVs.(Unmanned planes.)

The F-22 demo, unveiled last year, is AMAZING! To see a military vehicle do what an aerobatic civilian performer does is jaw dropping! Check out my website for pictures of that demo esp. in the GML thread.
