3D images created with a regular camera

I stumbled on a website were a guy created 3D images with just a regular camera...so I had to try it. It works kind of like those old "magic eye" pictures that were so popular about 12 years ago. When doing it right...you should see three images, the one in the center will be the one in 3D. It took me a while before I could see the image in 3D...so if you don't get it at first, keep trying. It is AWESOME!!!

Give it a try.

This is my third (and most successful) attempt at creating a 3D image. The picture was taken on my stairs with black velvet draped over them.

To view a 3D image like this, you put your face about a foot from the screen, and hold your eyes exactly level with the image. Cross your eyes slightly and you'll see a "ghost" image appear between the two. Adjust how crossed you've got your eyes until the central image is correctly aligned and in sharp focus and it'll appear to be 3D!

I thought I was getting close to seeing it, but then my eyes started hurting.

Stereoscopy, nice.

A more dynamic twist on this is "wiggle stereoscopy" which is awesome:

Crossing my eyes is much easier than spreading them for stereo viewing.

That's pretty cool Bobb. Can you teach Dave how to do this when he does those stream of consciousness reviews so we can actually feel like the cigar is coming out of the screen?

EDIT: Yours worked better for me, but the other artists was more fun to try with.
