Yep, played with it back before they changed the name (previously was called keyhole or something like that). The new version google released is much better. I really like how you can play a flyby of a route.

In the 'Place yourself on the map' thread there is a button that replaces the drawn map with the google earth one. Call up the map in that thread and click the satellite button.

It is indeed a neat program. Not near 100% in correct correctly locating some houses, but indeed useful. They Keyhole communities and National Geographic info sets are fun as well. Lots easer the Terra Server was to use. I got to play around with the Pro Version a bit back and the resolution was quite stunning. Do to some vehicle changes I have had over the years I can more or less pinpoint they year that the photo was taken of my house.

i've been using that a lot lately, looking at places near a potential job i might get, trying to find a place to live, etc.

Google Earth and maps.google.com use satelite imagery taken over several years by various satalites/various companies. I believe that google attempts to use the best images available for a particular area. For example, in the Omaha area there are some sections that have scattered clouds while others have none (in fact you can see where the shadow cast from a cloud is cut off)

and part of the city was during the winter (mostly brown) while other parts are obviously during more temperate months (mostly green).

And as you get to the newer (western) parts of the city the imegery is of a lower resolution.
