Bad stuff.

Bad stuff indeed.

Dip, I believe, cuts into your lip and delivers nicotine that way. Snus doesn't. I don't know about the tooth loss aspect of snus, but I'd say with near-certainty that it is nowhere near the risk of dip, or any other tobacco product.

I dip regularly so i don't get as big of a buzz from snus.. but picked up a tin of loose snus last herf and have had it a few times and it is pretty enjoyable. Anyone else that dip notice less of a buzz from snus?

I don't think it 'cuts into your lip', it just delivers the nicotine through the mucous membranes, exactly the same way snus does.
Way back there was an urban legend/myth about the tobacco company putting shards of glass in the snus to help cut the inside of the lip to deliver nicotine more efficiently, but what can sometimes look like shards are crystallised salt.

And, by the way, snus (at least when we're talking the swedish food-grade kind) is supposed to be stored in the fridge.
It shouldn't loose the wetness it has (around 50% is water).. some times one can get it rehydrated by carefully adding small amounts of water to the tin, but it could just as easily just make a mess of it.
The portion snus is still useable when it has dried, but doesn't taste at all good imho.

In Sweden all (almost) shops carrying snus have it displayed in small refrigerators and the stock stored in a refrigated room in the back. It makes a big difference if it is fresh, at least to me.

My offer is still on, that I bring some extra with me when I go to the US at the end of May and ship to any that are interested in trying it.
(well.. there's a limit to how much I can carry )

Just to keep costs down a bit since I'm going there anyways.

Just pm me and I'll tell you to stop when it gets too much

Haha alright. I'm gonna be flying home in June, so shoot me addresses of any overflow Anders and I will bring a log or two to fill the need.

Assuming there is any overflow.. no one has expressed any interest yet.

I think we'll cover anyone that wants to try it though.

The marlboro and camels are put in special, refrigerated displays behind the counter of whatever shop you're getting them at.

I'll agree that the best way to take snus is refrigerated. The american snus' say you don't have to refrigerate after opening, but that's really the best way to take it, although when you're carying around a pack for 8 hours at a time, warmth takes it's toll.

I've only seen a few shops carrying snus around here, but all of them were refrigerated as well.

As I've said before, there are 3 tobacco shops near my house, and only one of them carries snus. So it's really a gamble. But hey, if enough people ask for snus, they'll eventually start carrying it.

eventually...

Enabler.

Seriously, I didn't say that to troll for freebies. I don't want to be one of "those guys".

But I'm up for a trade if you're up for it. It'd be better IMO to try something like this with the guidance of a Jedi than to walk into a tobacco shop unawares.

I recommend anyone new to Snus to try General and Roda Lacket and if you want a heavy dose of Vitamin N try Nick & Johnny or Skruf Stark.

Re: Snus - A Second Newbies Perspective

I've always been curious about snus. Got into dipping pretty heavily. Copenhagen Long Cut is the stuff. The cancer aspect scares me though (Don't want to lose my lower jaw) so I started looking for alternates. Found out about snus somehow but never got around to it. Started using Red Man more often than Cope instead. Still thinks it's interesting that it is regulated by the food industry in Sweden cuz the stuff in America sure isn't.

It's still regulated by tobacco legislation, it's just named "mat snus" (mat=food, and snus..) because it is wetter than other forms of snus/snuff/dip and so on.

In every other European country, they didn't even bother trying to regulate it, in so many words.

They just banned it.

Re: Snus - A Second Newbies Perspective

I was a long time user of Coppenhagen and then Kodiak snuff. About a year a ago I got turned on to the snus thing. I order from buysnus.com and have found General Onyx and Lucky Strike to be my favorites. Both those types are the portion (little baggies, like Skoal Bandits) type. I much prefer the snus flavor to the snuff and doubt that I would ever convert back.
