Re: Favorite work of art?
Starry Night is above the fireplace & Café Terrace (Van Gogh as well) is in the kitchen; but I'm definitely a fan of Mona Lisa. DaVinci Code has nothing to do with that one even though it's a very good book!

Re: Favorite work of art?
I'll stare for a good long while at Joachim Wtewael's pieces whenever I get a chance. Some of you Kansas City brothers and sisters can see The Martyrdom of Saint Sebastian at the Nelson Atkins and if you haven't, you should! I marvel at this one, the colors, details, strange body positions are not to be believed and the real thing is life-sized. You can see the daggum veins under skin and individual hairs for pete sake. The perspective is amazing, you feel like you can enter into it (don't, security will beat you down). Also amazes me that something over 400 years old can look like it's fresh off the easel.
Hard to name A favorite tho!

Re: Favorite work of art?
I'm a big fan of Van Gogh, Picasso, Matisse, and Basquiat. I've been fortunate enough to see some amazing exhibits of rare works by them in the great museums here in NYC. If you every get a chance to see a Van Gogh exhibit, get as close as you can to the paintings and check out the amazing brushwork. Up close it looks like scribble, but then slowly step back and see how it all comes together....amazing! This is one of my favorites from Van Gogh..... Corridor in the ******

Re: Favorite work of art?
My favorite artists are Jackson Pollock and Pablo Picasso. I especially like Picaso's cubism. Mondrian is also another incredible artist and visionary like Picasso and Pollock.

![]() Myself, I'm a big Pop Art fan. It's no coincidence I started in art and ended up in advertising. Honourable mentions go to Bauhaus and De Stijl for their emphasis on good design, and Dada for its emphasis on messing with people.

Re: Favorite work of art?
Hard to pick a favorite, but here are a couple that stand out in my mind (and that haven't already been mentioned):
Caravaggio's The Card Sharps ![]() Monet's Impression Soleil Lavant As far as sculpture goes, I could stand and stare at Rodin's the Gates of Hell for days and be perfectly content. (So far, I think I've only managed a couple of hours.) And here's one I own that always makes me smile (can't quite afford a Monet...): ![]() Without Borders by Peter Max

Re: Favorite work of art?
Another favorite of mine at the Art Institute of Chicago Archibald J. Motley Jr.'s Nightlife
![]() You just don't see purple like that very often. I love the balance and the motion. I feel like I could step into this painting. Another favorite artist of mine is Jenny Holzer. She mostly did installation work. Hers was the first modern art exhibit that blew me away when I was a kid. An example from the Guggenheim. ![]()
