Re: Favorite work of art?
Wow, some good choices here. Good thread. Hard to pick my favorites, but there are a couple that really moved me when I saw them in person
Not one for most modern art but I like Pollack. This one tore me up when I first saw it. Stood in front of it for 15 minutes. Autumn Rhythm (number 30) ![]() The Dancer by Degas. First time I saw her face, I was dumbstruck. Hadn't had any sleep in about 36 hours, so that may be part of it. ![]()

Personally, I thought it was a bit weird looking. The right leg looks quite a bit longer than the left. ![]() Maxfield Parrish's Daybreak is regarded as the most popular art print of the 20th century, based on number of prints made: one for every four American homes. According to the The National Museum of American Illustration, it has outsold Andy Warhol's Campbell's Soup Cans and Da Vinci's Last Supper. We have a print in our bathroom. It was also used for the cover of one of my favorite cds of the 80s.

A couple of others that I like that are a little off the beaten track is Piet Mondrian. ![]() Another by Rene Magritte ![]() I did a piece for a show in grad school where I recreated this image as a 3D quicktime vr object and changed the ceci n'est pas une pipe non plus. Which means this is not a pipe either.

Re: Favorite work of art?
So many different beautifull and inspiring works of art have been posted. I believe art is one of the most important essences of a civilized society. I have some of those works in my subbasement. (not the original).
There is nice small museum in corning new york(corning glass ), that is called if I remember, the remington museum of sculpture. It has a lot of western painting and sculpture, of which I do enjoy. I have several replicas. Jerry |

Re: Favorite work of art?
Here is the direction I lean. I think Howard Terpning did some of the best works on American Indians. This was my favorite of the ones that were still available when we got it.

Being an art student I can't help but love that this thread was brought back up. And after spending the last 2 hours on a drawing, I enjoyed taking a break and looking at other (much better!) works. |

Yes it is an oil, here is a link with a small biography of his rather interesting background. A tribute to Howard Terpning
