Laughlin River Run (motorcycle run)

I could only make Sat. of the 4 day event in southern Nevada! I actually pawned off the kid and me and the Wife hopped on the bike and rode down to Laughlin to check out all the new stuff and see the sights ! Had a great time, right up until 11:15 at night when we were sitting at a red light when some jacka$$ ran into the back of my bike. No one was hurt on my side but the non-English speaking bastage had a hell of a night. As my Wife was calling law enforcement they came from out of nowhere (one on a bike, a couple in a car and about 6 on foot before she even talked to anyone on the phone) As they approched they asked what the problem was and who was the driver, I told them and went to point to the driver who was at that point left his GF and was walking down the street (Stopped by those who were watching) The Cop wandered over and grabbed him cuffed him, eventually tested him (a big +++++ for alcohol) pulled an almost full bottle of beer from the car and the SOB had no D.L. He was not the owner of the car but a relative of the GF who had Insurance (not in the vehicle did have ins. for the car, weather or not paid we will find out!) Needless to say his GF cuss me in as many ways in Spanish as she could and the car was towed and we finally got back to Vegas around 2ish. Welcome to little Mexico. No one was hurt and we were able to ride the bike back still.

Wow, I am glad you and your wife made it out okay. How much damage was done to your bike?

A little scratch. The cop looked at it and said it looked like a bug smudge, I was thinking to myself what an a$$ then he said " I bet it will be about $300" HD (hundreds of dollars) The nice thing was is that I did not dump the bike, must have been square on.

Sorry to hear about your mishap, but glad they caught the guy, no one got hurt and that it wasn't worse.

I remember not SO many years ago when the Laughlin run used to be loads fun...now it's just gotten too big IMO

Re: Laughlin River Run (motorcycle run)

Glad Your OK. I got hit from behind many years ago, similar situation; at a stop light. Guy hit me at about 15 mph, pushed me into the pickup that was about 15-20 ft ahead of me.

I was on a little Suzuki GS550 , it was totalled. I had on a helmet and leathers, and did OK. He was DWI and tried to leave the scene. Since I was in the Town where I worked, when off duty I always carreid my ID, OD wpn and cuffs. Shoulda seen his face when I slapped the cuffs on and started reading him his rights!! Was worth the price of admission.

Spoke to some Canadians yesterday riding their HD's back from the Laughlin Run. They hit some COLD weather in Idaho/Montana on the way back.

Re: Laughlin River Run (motorcycle run)

It's been about 25 years since I was T-Boned by a guy in a Cadillac and I went over the roof. He turned right into my path and there was no time to even begin to brake.

I remember scraping on my face for what seemed like an eternity and lying in the road doing a parts check on my body to see if everything was still there.

My bike needed new forks and headlights and I needed stitches.

They say you need to get one crash under your belt and I pray that was the last.

Re: Laughlin River Run (motorcycle run)

Thanks for the kind words my Brothers, and yes lets hope I got it out of the way. If not I hope my Son or my Wife are not with me at the time. My 8 year old is with me often ( I pick him up on it everyday from school). Living by my own thoughts (or whoever said it first) Keep the shinney side up and the rubber down!

Re: Laughlin River Run (motorcycle run)

When I ride, I put myself into the mindset that I am in a fighter plane and all the cars are MIGs trying to shoot me down and my mission is to avoid all of them. I also assume nobody can see me. I put a snarl on my face and keep an escape plan ready should someone enter my lane.

I'm thinking that once I get around to getting my concealed weapon permit, I may want to rethink the fighter plane mentality.

Speaking of which, a BOTL posted a really cool picture of a 1940's knucklehead that still had the shotgun holster on the front forks from WW2. How cool is that???

Re: Laughlin River Run (motorcycle run)

One must always be aware of the LEFT TURNING approaching driver. They love to turn in front of bikes.

I'm always aware of who's around me, how close are they, and #1...WHERE can I GO to escape/avoid them. Ya gotta have a plan.

You city guys have other drivers to worry about. Ou here in rural MT it's suicidal deer/ elk and the occasional bear. It's so bad in my vicinity that I seldom EVER drive at night. And dusk/dawn your no more than 45-50 mph.
