HDTV / Sirius Satelite Radio question....

I'm not very tech savvy, but I want to hook up my Sirius Satelite receiver to play through my Sharp Aquos HDTV. Below are generic pics of what I have. When I plug the RED & WHITE cables from my Sirius to the Audio Input #2 on the TV and then switch to that input on the TV, I get nothing.

Can this be done? Do I need to get a receiver to run this through?

My Siruis receiver & attachments.....

My HDTV inputs (similar)

I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work.

Is there a Volume control on the Siruis unit? Maybe it is turned down at that point?

Some TV's require a video source for the input to be active, maybe try running something like the composite (yellow) video output of your cable box, dvd or vcr into Input 2 as well and see if that helps.

Also, be sure you are not plugging it into the "Output" which is right next the Video 2 input in the picture.

I would check the settings menu on the Sirius unit to see if there's an audio out option that needs to be set to "on"

check the TV settings menu also to see if for the audio 2 input there is a setting to turn the internal speakers on or off, and adjust accordingly.

Almost exactly my setup except I have the smaller sirius unit

Sharp Aquos TV same inputs as yours. The connection configuration should work.

Check your input settings on the menu to be sure that Input 2 hasn't been deactivated or designated to a different (HDMI) input device.

Mine worked when I used it/

Glad I could help.

Sadly there is probably no way that the average consumer would even know to try that.

Sometimes it is just the experience of being frustrated for hours trying to solve a problem that helps. I am glad that someone could benefit from me screaming at my TV.

Re: HDTV / Sirius Satelite Radio question....

Reminds me of the problem that my Toshiba HD-A2 had with my Samsung HLS-6187W. The Samsung HLS-6187W needed a video source to activate the associated input, i.e. HDMI-1, but the Toshiba HD-A2 needed the Samsung HLS-6187W to initiate the HDMI "handshake". Basically each device was waiting on the other to initiate, which meant they wouldn't work together until Toshiba issues a firmware update. Highly annoying.

Oh man that would piss me off too!

Can you "wake up" HDMI 1 connection with your cable box or something and then swap them around?

Probably but it would be a pain in the ass. Luckily Toshiba issued a firmware upgrate a couple weeks later.

Ohh, OK. I though it was an on-going issue.

My old TV had a known problem with the HDMI handshake which rendered the HDMI port pretty much useless. I am a member of an A/V board and literally hundreds of people ened up find the thread on it and complaining of the same problem. I'm sure many of them emailed the company with the complaint and they never did anything about it. I'm glad Toshiba stepped up.
