Re: How many of us actually golf??

I never started and now that I work with a lot of golfers and would have the opportunities, I don't have enough healthy joints to do any good. I did play softball and basketball til I was in my early 40's but that was a while ago.

Re: How many of us actually golf??

I love to golf, my dad got me into the game when I was five, been playing as much as I can every since. Back in high school when I was still hitting (in collge us pitchers dont hit) my batting style sure screwed up my backswing but since have gotten it straightened out.

Re: How many of us actually golf??

Love the Game but like so many, I suck too. It's about the only time I can get with My older brother and some friends and enjoy 4 to 5 hours of fun. Cold beer, three cigars and then a long nap when I get home, can't beat it. I started about four years ago and was nervous about how bad I would be, but you know its all about fun, not who scores the highest (that is how the games played, right ?) I still shoot high 90's to low 100's, but latley I haven't been losing my balls as much (ouch)

I play way too much, according to my wife!!! I usually play 2-3 times a week when I can between coaching football and baseball. I've stopped all my other hobbies (except cigars) too concentrate on this stupid sport... .

Golf is one sport that your never too old or to young to play. It's something you can enjoy for many years.

Well I doubt I embarass you Cig!! I play really well on my home course but my game doesn't travel very well. If you've got a putting green in your basement then I'm sure your a good putter, which is something I'm not!!

We have a standing game every Saturday and Sunday morning, weather permitting. It's getting colder here in our parts but I'll still be out there in the morning teeing it up around 9am with a nice boli CG.

I've never really got the whole golf thing. I've been to driving ranges and played a round or two, but just never liked it enough to get into it. Plus, its to damn expensive.

This is so true. I try to play every week, and am both better and worse than I once was. When I was better is when I was playing around 3 times per week. My irons were hot even if driver was not! Like many places, golf is not a year round sport here, not because I mind playing in cold weather, but the courses don't like taking divots that won't grow back. There is always a course that'll let you on if you look around. Plus, when I start getting the hunting and fishing bug, I have to go. Now, I am back to a complete rework of my swing. I am revamping the entire thing, and my game is shot, but I feel I am definitely leading towards a more consistent ball flight.

You are right Jeff. It is too expensive, and it's way addicting once you do decide you like it. Kinda sounds like a lot of other hobbies in my life.

Re: How many of us actually golf??

I LOVE to play when I have time and my back isn't bothering me. It is expensive though. The last time I played cost
Green fees: $42.50
Cigars (4) : $22.00 3 smoked, one gifted to a cig smoker
Lost Balls : $35.00 (it was the first time on a TOUGH course!)
Lunch and drinks: $25

But being able to hang out with friends (and hitting at least one "perfect" drive) makes it worth it!

Re: How many of us actually golf??

I definately have golf fever big time, and golf and stogies will always be linked together in my mind. Golf is like sex... It sounds stupid before you try it, and you don't have to be good at it to have fun, but you need to have at least a few good holes before you figure out what all the fuss is about.

Re: How many of us actually golf??

I once drove around willy nilly in a golf cart after drinking too many airline bottles of whiskey. I also made a hell of a lot of divots and lost six golf balls off the first tee. Does that count as "playing" golf?

No, more along the lines of enjoying the game. Enjoying is not playing but equally fun. You sound like a golfer that I could go golfing with.

I really enjoy getting out and golfing with friends. Bring a bunch of cigars, beer or a few bottles and a dozen balls and hack away.

Re: How many of us actually golf??

Been playing for 5 years, but new to cigars. 15-18 handicap... After I smoke a strong one, my handicap would probably be +30

Re: How many of us actually golf??

Although it is an insult to other golfers to call what I do "golf", I do like to play and I don't get out nearly often enough. Maybe only twice a year
