Re: Billion (with a B) Dollar Home
Unbelievable. It's hard to imagine that level of wealth. So much money that you could never spend it all.
Your money is making money.

That's just ridiculous. Seriously, they should put that money to better use.

agreed. That seems stupid to most...ok probably all of us here. What gets me is there is no mention of a personal B&M although B&M is probably...ok definatley an understatment.

You mean you couldn't use a 400,000 sq. ft. home?

Re: Billion (with a B) Dollar Home
A lot of people make a living via building and supporting that building. The best thing a billionaire can do is spend their money and give us an opportunity to get the money back.

Re: Billion (with a B) Dollar Home
If you've got it, do what you please! Spread the wealth around to companies that will most likely invest it. They've got so much that they could never even fathom spending all of it. I'm sure it's going to create some jobs in the area, even if it will stick out like a sore thumb!

Re: Billion (with a B) Dollar Home
Ugly as sin.
But as pointed out already, it's their money. I just think it's a shame that they could have bought the entire top half of a NYC high-rise and still had enough to build vacation homes in 20 other locations around the world for a third of that.

Re: Billion (with a B) Dollar Home
I actually like it. The amazing thing is that it would have certainly cost at least 50% more to do this in the US.
It is a prestige thing to do and possibly a historic act. Someone from India (not nobility) makes a statement at the start of the 21st century that they are to be reckoned with and that Asia is where stuff is happening now, not the US anymore. It is the same phenomenon as what happened with rich Americans outdoing century old European palaces or actually importing them brick by brick, see Getty or Hearst castle. There is the duality of the link to the rich country they aspire to and the desire to have something that expresses their own Indian identity. In terms of exterior architecture I am not so sure about it. It is clearly western but clearly not a strike of genius. They should have hired Foster or Herzog and de Meuron who both have great experice working in Asia. Anyway, it is not a house but a symbol. Till |
