Got my bike back!
Long story short, "sold" my bike to a friend a couple of years ago ... now she's come back to me
  needs new tires and good going-over, but she started right up like a champ

Congrats! I had an '81 Kawasaki KZ1000 years ago that fell into disrepair due to apartment living and harsh Chicago winters. A friend's Dad bought it from me for $500 because he likes doing project bikes...he had it for a year and turned it mint again....and then sold it back to me for $500! It was even sweeter the second time around. Enjoy the bike and ride safe.
