Question Web Hosting Services

Anyone know of a decent cheap web hosting site that will allow me to use active server pages. I want to be able to link web pages to MS Access databases. The ones that I have seen are quite expensive.

Re: Web Hosting Services

Well, you don't have to have asp pages to serve Access data.

The bad thing about ASP is it only runs on a Windows server (yeah, there is stuff like ChilisoftASP, but those aren't all that reliable IMO). The bad thing about a Win server is it's poor security, poor speed and double (and up) price tag.

You can connect to Access databases using PHP. The good thing about this is PHP will run on Linux, Mac and Windows so you can chose which OS you want to serve your site on. There are a ton of tutorials on how to do this.

I'd also look into transfering your Access database into a MySQL or a PostgreSQL database. Both are open source (free), come pre-installed on any competent hosting provider's products and work much better for an online environment.

You can check out nicnoc for solid hosting at a cheap price. They have Linux and Windows hosting available.

the places I like are Spiderhosts.com and Directnic.com. For Database you'll probably want to check out spiderhosts.com first.

I agree with the King. If you are looking for an online database, MySQL works very well and many web hosting companies offer it as part of their package.

I use HostM http://www.hostm.com/
For $7.95/mo. you can host up to 5 domains in that package. They have a very comprehensive control panel, and MySQL is included.

Re: Web Hosting Services

Just want to thank everyone for their suggestions. I've been checking them out and will hopefully get an account and set up a database with web forms soon. Help with this in the future would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys!
