Soooo I drove by my local bestbuy this morning....

...and I wondered to myself why there was a line of people standing out front 3 hours before it opened. and then I remembered the XBOX comes out today.

Can't say that I am. Even my kids are like no way Dad not at full retail. I think Microsoft is going to be disappointed with sales this year. Too much $$ for too little innovation.

I did that for the playstation2 when it came out, not this time though. There have been people in line around here at one store since 2pm yesterday - I forget which store but they have 13 systems available. Another store got robbed yesterday for a couple - I think that was Walmart. I would think it would be pretty difficult to rob a Walmart...if I were going that route, I'd probably hold up an Eb games or something smaller with less employees.

Nah, Wal-Mart is too worried about people suing them. No joke. Not that I condone it or anything, but if...say a guy wanted to grab some merchandise, and walk out the door without paying...by policy they HAVE to let that person go. Sure, they call the cops, but by then the person is long gone. A Wal-Mart associate can actually get in trouble if they chase after someone stealing something.

I believe this. You know how Best Buy makes you show your receipt on the way out. My nephew refuses to do this and is waiting for the first overzealous kid to chase him and crack on him. I guess he's playing fortune 100 lotto.

On topic: no way would I wait in line or pay that much for a video game console. The last console I owned was SNES. The last one I played with any regularity was 8-bit Nintendo.

From what I've read this system's really only FANTASTIC if you've got an HD TV. I've played the demo games on a setup at Wal Mart and was pretty underwhelmed by the graphics. They look good, probably better than any other console out there, but the PC still kicks its ass!! LONG LIVE PC GAMING!!!

PC gaming is the only way....IMHO

I'll probably end up getting on sooner or later (more like later) once all the hype dies out and the holiday season is done with. I traded in my Xbox and all the games before they 360 came out in order to get the most in store credit.

This system will not be available in mass quantities until the Spring, which is when the PS3 is supposed to be released (~March 2006). At that point, with all the new features of the PS3, which is supposed to blow the XBOX 360 away, it'll drop in price and all the focus will then be on the PS3. I think this system will be a bust and as Colgate said, just not much added to it besides HD capabilities.

I think rather than just releasing 400,000 or so of them, they really should have prepared better to meet the demand and capitalize on the profit they could make prior to the PS3 release.

Nah I won't think it's as bad. The PS2 release in 2002 was pretty crazy though. Those things were re-selling for $2000+ on ebay.
