Border Patrol to do their jobs, allegedly

I wondered who all those guys were blocking me this morning at the gas station. We have a corner station and it's become the meeting point for young males who do day work. They park their trucks at the pump and shoot the shit for a while before heading out. They block other commuters from getting gas. If you give them a look they stare you down. Not like you typical low keyed latinos. These guys look half latino/half african. A lot of guys who don't look mexican per se. Now I know, they are Brazilian. And they have a farking attitude. Close the !@#$%@#$%$ border to illegals already. Catch and release? Are you kidding me? And so nice of Socialist Brazil to spit in our face but send all their rabble rousing youths up here to enjoy "America"!

Yeah I know I sound like Bill the Butcher but this sh!it is making a mockery out of citizenship and what it means to be a citizen.

Don't get me wrong. I'm all for legal immigration. THe USA was built by immigrant workers.

The Feds show disdain for the law and teach children to disdain the law every day they knowingly, blatantly ignore enforcement. Get rid if the damn law if you're not going to enforce it.

Just like the article said. Big business wants cheap labor, and they are the conservatives power base. Therefore there will be minimal enforcement.

Screw these holding centers They are just a waste of taxpayer dollars. As soon as these people get caught here, deport them immediately without a freaking hearing.

I give it up to that militia group who is watching the border. They have the right idea.

It is a political quagmire

Any politician that comes out (truly in action) against the border crossings will get labeled "anti-Hispanic" "anti-compassionate" and a whole bunch or other ones you can think of. When you get labeled that you are pretty well shafted at election time because in case you haven't noticed... we have a pretty significant Mexican/Hispanic population (including me the half breed, but I haven't really determined a clear position on this) and when you couple this with the rest of the "liberal toward immigration" crowd... it becomes too hot to touch.

When you couple that with the business factor already mentioned.... and some actual real compassion issues, you end up where we are today with those against "anyone coming over" patrolling the border or being active politically.

This is a problem that will not go away very easy because of the afore mentioned AND the fact that we are a land of opportunity and sometimes necessity to those from other countries, especially Mexico. When you couple all of this with (this part is for me and those that believe the same way) what God says is right... and he was fairly "pro" immigration from a compassion standpoint as long as those coming in where to obey the law of the land (religiously) then you end up with

one very confusing religiously, frustrating socially, politically dangerous, physically hard to deter situation that will most likely continue for a long time.

I am all for legal immigration. And I'm for guest worker programs. But when you stop and think, the population of Brazil is soon going to be greater than the population of the USA. Brazil alone has an est population of 290-300 million, the USA 295-305 million. Whoops, serious economic dislocation possibilities here.

I saw a show the other day about the residents coming back to New Orleans who are licensed electricians/construction types and they got the boot from the engineering construction firm in favor of cheap outside labor streaming into the area. They showed the company housing for these folks and it was like 30 men to a 40 foot hi cube stored away in little bunks. That was where they lived! The locals just cried to the camera. The residents who came back to rebuild got shut out because they wouldn't take the pay cut.

But to be perfectly fair, immigration is good and has been good for the immigrant and the USA. Why? Because hungry workers get the dirty work done. But it's got to slow down. The numbers involved and the current perception that it's pretty easy to get in mean it's a flood. Maybe people think it's about to get harder so they are rushing to get across. Who knows but I hope we get some sensible policies in place.

Toughen the border, drop the minimum wage, and have gladiator style fights for food instead of welfare. After MAYBE a 5-10 year correction, we MIGHT be able to compete on a global scale and MIGHT be able to salvage the future of the American economy. It would also reduce government spending, illegal immigration, and stories on the nightly news about the poor Delphi worker who after sweeping floors for 25 years, might lose his $27/ hour + benefits job.

Who picks the grapes for the cali wine you drink? veges? fruit? Some are leagal, I think, I really didn't ask. Do you know what you make working the harvest tour? I use to do this for some extra gas money for dead tour. Answer... Not Alot....The califorornia argricultural industry would have some serious issues if they couldn't get ther labor where they do.

great points supporting the need for less ancillary government services and an open border! Free movement of labor and capital!

It'd work if it were not for the fact that we just give away too much crap to our poor, so my solution would be to stop giving so much crap to the poor - government can restrict their activities to law enforcement, defense and public works - change taxes from income based to consumption based and we'd be rockin' and rollin'!!!
