Re: Remember The Dark Days Before The Internet?
When I started my career after college (Yes, they had computers back then.
), we had to write our programs, have them punched out on hollerith cards and we would walk the deck over to operations and hand them the deck to compile and/or run the program. With night time production support, we had to go into the office to resolve porblems. Then, so we could work problems from home, we were issued a dumb terminal with a 1200 baud modem. Ah, the good old days . . . . . . . . . . not. |

Re: Remember The Dark Days Before The Internet?
I was re-reading a book last night. We are not talking from 1980, this book was written in 2000. In the book they talk about technical gadgets and spy type stuff. One guy had a 6K computer that could access the internet without a phone line. A few times in the book they talk about 'dialing up'. The super slim cell phone was the size of his wallet.
The best one that while searching for someone they used Mapquest which saved them lots of time from looking at maps... I am sure during that time frame the first read I was like 'cool'. Now 8 years later. We have a laptop that gets on the internet (what the f is the internet) from pretty much everwhere. You get the internet with LIGHT now, or Verizon wants me to think that. My cell phone is a bit smaller than my wallet, and I get the internet on that. and as for directions, put in an address and the very same phone will give me turn by turn. That's just 8 years and all ready the really cool new stuff is old technology.

Upgrading from Windows 3.1 to Windows 95 --> TWENTY-FIVE (25) freaking floppy disks and damn if disk 19 didn't have an error on it.
