"we are winning the war against smoking"
That's the part that I found most interesting... We're in a war on terrorism.. War on drunk driving I could understand, or war on soccer moms who drive overly large SUVs while talking on their cellphones and almost killing people... but a war agains smoking? So now we're criminals, same as the terrorist we're waging war on... wth is wrong with people?

Re: Interesting read...

What a bunch of stinky poo. If they wanted to attract women, they'd set a program up where you buy 50 boxes of cigars, send in the box tops and get a free pair of shoes. "Grape, cinnamon and apple" flavors? I don't think so.

"Delnevo and colleagues examined recent statistics and found that overall cigar consumption in the United States has jumped by more than 28 percent between 2000 and 2004."

Yeah, but if you cut out Klugs, consumption would remain flat; its just an artifact.

You could probably show that most of the kids who smoked a cigar have been to church. Does cigar smoking promote going to church?

LMFAO... very, very true.. I go to church.. I also attend college.. so do going to church and college promote smoking? Or vice versa? and as for the Klugs comment.. after seeing his "moving day" pictures... I think I'd have to agree with you... You're not really one to speak though, you're almost as far down the slope as he is... you and your darn magic wand!

Re: Interesting read...

This quote is what really scares me.....

"What to do? Delnevo said states need to do a better job of taxing cigars appropriately and regulating where they're sold, so it's harder for kids to get their hands on them. "

I live in NJ and the last thing we need is to tax cigars MORE!

Also, the article states that it is cheaper today for kids to smoke cigars than cigarettes? This leads me to believe they are referring to cigars such as Swisher Sweets, Backwoods, etc.. You know, the kind you buy at the local Kwik-E-Mart, NOT at a legit cigar stores (I seriously doubt there are many 16 yr olds smoking $4-$10 cigars daily..)
Unfortunatley, these people will want to tax ALL cigars, affecting all of us that are of age and buy "good" cigars at legit retailers. This is the typical mindset of these people/politicians.."let's not do any real research into the problem. Lets just TAX EVERYTHING and it will work itself out".

heck, I'm 19, and can't smoke $4-$10 cigars daily... I'm lucky if I smoke one every two weeks! Agreed, taxing all the legit cigars to stop teens from smoking swisher sweets is like taxing corvettes and ferarris to stop teens from speeding in Chevy Crapaliers and Ford Pintos and Geo Metros... sorry.. I'm a car guy.. did that analogy even make sense?

The underground starts here. There was a post in the last week or two talking about banning grape cinnamon and apple flavors among others and I didn't understand it at the time. So thats where it comes from. THese "Fruitpebbles" versions of cigars are not threatening the cost of the legitimate (mostly) hobby of hard-working adults.
