Bike Computer

Hey guys. So I decided that I really need to lose some of the extra weight that I have put on over the last few years and so I bought myself a new Trek bike. As in new....I mean new to me. It is 10 years old and I purchased it from a guy here in NJ for a great price. Now I am looking to buy a bike computer. I don't really have a lot of bike shops by me and the ones that I do have are priced so high. I think that they think that I want to become a professional cycler!! Anyhow, just wondering if someone could point me in the right direction for a bike computer. I am looking for something that gives me the basics....nothing to fancy but nothing thats gonna break on me in a week! I prefer wireless as well so that my clumsiness doesn't cause a catastrophe!!! Please let me know what you guys think and a good place to look for this. I've tried Ebay....but I don't know where to begin!!

Thanks!!

Jonathan

Re: Bike Computer

The one I use is similar to THIS and has worked great. If you can find one that is wireless it is easier to install but I like having the cadence meter on mine (cadence is similar to rpm) and this is one of the cheapest options I have found. I have also ordered from that vendor and shopped at one of their retail stores with success.

Thumbs up Re: Bike Computer

Cateye Wireless is the way to go. Cheap and does the trick. I do not this cadence is worth the cost. Just pedal above 80 rpm and you're good.

Get a seperate heart rate monitor if you want to go fancy. I have seen them for like $30.00 on discount sites like buy.com.

I've always had good luck with Cat Eyes. Someone already sent you a link
to one for sale @ Perfomance.com. The other giant aftermarket retailer is Bike Nashbar www.nashbar.com.

Re: Bike Computer

I can't find the model of my Specialized Cyclocomputer but anything simple is good...the cadence thing is great if you care for that stuff..otherwise...trip distance, avg speed, current speed is what I usually look at on my bike.

Re: Bike Computer

+5 on the Cateyes. Computers are nice when you're getting used to a new bike.

I'm past cyclecomputers nowadays (too many timed/distance rides to count, daily cycle commuter since the early nineties)-- just ride hard til I pass out!

Re: Bike Computer

I use to use the Campagnolo Ergo Brain, but there was too many wires and I could care less about a screen telling me what gear I was in. I still looked back at the cassette.

I used a Specialized intergrated heart rate monitor and bike computer, but when that died, you're out both and the chest straps never last that long.

I like the simple function of the Cat Eye, I do not feel I need more data.
