Amazing.
I'd like to know evidence of that "large intelligent population".
Must be a great kept secret to us Cubans.

The rich were rich, the poor were poor, now all are poor.
Castro was a Communist from the word go who fooled the Cuban people.
It is utterly ridiculous to infer he turned to Russia because we did not help him.
His plans for a Communist Cuba were long in the works.
I struggled on whether to post something here, and I guess perhaps I should not have. I'm not necessarily implying that intelligent Cubans in Cuba are intelligent because they support the regime, just that they are intelligent. That is all.

I am quite aware of the poverty that exists currently. I've been to the country twice, and have been lucky enough to speak to many Cubans while there, and many are quite open about current conditions.

The fact that the Russians where there to help him is pretty well common knowledge(?). I agree with many here. Lifitng the embargo would help. Many in Cuba already have access to the internet. The younger generation see what is available outside of their country. They will be the one's who will push for change.

Perhaps it's better to say that America functions best as a republic and the citizens of other countries are free to pursue the government structure of their choice. Make no mistake, every citizen of the world has a choice. Even in places are opressive as China and Cuba.

The perceived 'problem' in Cuba is not an American issue. It's a Cuban issue if there even is an issue. I would like to see the US lift the embargo and trade freely with Cuba as we do the rest of the hemisphere. It certainly wouldn't harm either Cuba or the US and it would likely do some good. As Cubans meet and trade with Americans, they'll start to wonder why they don't enjoy some of the freedoms that we have. Over time they'll begin to demand them, or not perhaps. They might be very content with how things are structured over there.

My ...I hardly have all the answers.
This is why I stay out of this conversation
