Miami International Airport shooting,

We all heard it yesterday, and while it is unfortunate that this guy's life ended like this, I'm annoyed by some comments of the media mentioning excessive use of force and such BS. But the air marshals did what they had to do, an oustanding job, as harsh as that sounds.

Except for the mans wife telling everyone he was mentally ill and hadn't taken his medication.

They shot a nut job. Great, I feel oh so much safer. Do you think the sky marshalls can come over here and take out a few of the people that I see leaving Walmart talking to themselves?

I do think the marhsall did what he had to do in this case. "I got a bomb" ... sorry pal, screaming that ain't a good idea on a plane.

Too bad for him and his wife. Note: bipolar people SHOULD take their meds. He was shot because he claimed to have a bomb on the plane. There is not going to be time to check him out. He said he had a bomb and then went for something in his bag ... bam bam bam. Good job skymarshall.

Re: Miami International Airport shooting,

Despite all of the pontification by the left about gun control, had any one of the passengers been armed on 9/11, we'd be in a very different situation. And the irony of it all is that the nutjobs still insist that pilots not be armed.

Firearms are life support equipment.
Police are law enforcement, not crime prevention.
Gun control = Job Security for criminals.

I could go on, but you get my gist.

One thing is certain. There'll be a lot less joking about bombs in bags when going through the airport check-in. That much is sure.

By the way, take note that the politicians who come out strongly for "gun control" are the same ones that want to interfere in other aspects of your personal life. They also want to ban smoking (altogehter, if possible), ban and/or tax junk food, and don't even get me started on Eminent Domain, which if you start peeling the layers off, tends to occur in liberal-leaning areas of the country.

Watch your back!

I would have to agree with you on this. As unfortunate as it was, the safety of all the others in the area is what the air marshals were concerned with. These type of decisions are often made in a split second and I feel that the right one was made.

Now, before everyone starts flaming here, I want you to look at this from a different view point.

Had there been a bomb in that backpack and the air marshal would have delayed their action, and said bomb would have detonated, what would you be saying now?

Something to think about before you post a reply.

Ron

Re: Miami International Airport shooting,

I agree that the Marshalls did what they had to do. I don't understand how manic depression can cause you to act that much out of character though. Maybe it was an "assisted suicide" for him. Get somebody else to pull the trigger instead of himself.

Sean, this time he was a nut job. Next time, he might be an Al Queda agent. Yes, you're right. He did what he had to. Although it does beg the question about what Al Queda agent would be so stupid as to announce his intent before pushing the button.

Nevertheless, a message was sent to terrorists, and they will presumably be re-evaluating any plans for bombing planes.

I thought the skymarshall did the right thing and thats all there is too it. I was complaining about the rest of the nut jobs who seem to be congregating around walmart in this neck of the woods. I think we should ship the mentally ill to France. Sorry, but I don't like nut jobs.

Gee lets not take our meds and go inside a metal tube for hours....brilliant I tell ya
Thats like a diabetic throwing away his insulin
Whether that is what caused this incident or if it was suicide by cop...it was not a smart thing to do, and like most here, the Marshals did what they are trained to do, especially since he reached into the bag...lights out

OMG. I just snorted coffee out of my nose.

Sorry there, Sean. They're all full up in France. Have been for some time, now. In fact, one might say that the inmates are running the ****** over there.

Re: Miami International Airport shooting,

Suicide by Air Marshall? Some people just don't want to go without a little attention.

you don't spit into the wind
you don't tug on Superman's cap
and you don't mess around
with an Air Marshall yelling
I got a bomb!

Re: Miami International Airport shooting,

The Air Marshall's did what they had to do. It was unfortunate that someone had to lose their life. But if he was yelling he had a bomb and would not stop for the Air Marshals then they only had one option and that was to shoot him.

Re: Miami International Airport shooting,

Had that guy went running around saying he had an elf in his pocket, I'd thought he was crazy. You yell "I have a bomb", you either have a bomb or you want to die.

Or France, evidently? That made me laugh so hard.. my roommates think I'm crazy cuz I laugh so often at random stuff that I can't explain to them... Anyway, onto the subject at hand. I think what was necessary was done. I feel bad, we all know people who are slightly sub-par on the mental plane (no pun intended). But if he didn't take his meds (stupid #1), then said he had a bomb (stupid #2), then reached into his bag (stupid #last) it's lights out, bye bye, sayonara.. I'm sorry, but the Marshall did what he thought he had to do to preserve the life of everyone on that plane. Should the Marshall feel guilty? I don't think so.. will killing that man haunt him for the rest of his life? Quite probably, I know it would me... but it's a clear cut case of self defense/preservation of others, and the Marshall has done no wrong... just my
