Re: Got pulled over twice in one day...

First off thanks to all the law enforcement officers here at cs, you do a very underappreciated job that we should all be grateful for and I am sure you hear way too many whining complaints from those you cite.

That said, I was also surprised at the reaction by some of you to some simple venting at a couple of ill-timed run-ins with the boys in blue. Honestly I think any cigar smoker would have a big problem with a "nanny-state" law such as the seat belt law, as it is in the same vein as anti-smoking laws. I always wear my seat belt because it is just dumb not too. However, that should be my choice, not the gov't's, the same as smoking in a private vehicle, home, or business. Here in Pa the cops cannot pull you over for a seat belt infraction only, you must have committed another violation first. So IMHO, complaining about an officer who's priority seems to be looking for a nit-picking offense such as not wearing a seat belt, is justified. (If that is a policy of his police department and the officer is only doing his job, I understand, but shame on the dept. for making it a priority)

Again, no disrespect aimed at any officers here, but I think the venting the OP did here is no different than any of us do about stupid anti-smoking laws.

So please officer, can't you cut a guy a break, just once?

In an unrelated story, the other day someone was tailgating us pretty badly on the highway (1-2 feet behind us), and actually got pulled over as a result - it pretty much made our day. You have to understand that in Chicago all kinds of bad driving occurs right in front of police (running red lights, using right-turn lanes as "passing" lanes, etc) and often nothing happens as a result.

Talking Re: Got pulled over twice in one day...

Hell, I have been pulled over 2 times in the last 5 yrs,
1st time it was for 40 in a 30... Yes I did it!!
If you wanted to attend the drivers safety class you had to pay the ticket AND the 50 bones for class.... Totaled out to 220 clams..
Second one was for a California stop and I did it too!
same deal for cost only 10 dollars cheaper..

Mount Juliet stinks!!!!I hate it here!!

You think that will change when you become a lawyer.

I'm guessing you won't be going into criminal defense then; otherwise, you'll be the one arguing why your clients are "somehow special and the laws don't apply".

Thank you so much for the help with this .. I had no freakin idea why I was getting speeding tickets. Your illuminating post has forever indelibly imprinted into my mind the source of my problem. I can't think you enough!

Flippant reply aside, I drive at a safe speed, the posted number be damned. If I get pulled over, I smile, am polite, sign on the dotted line and thank the officer. Its his job to enforce the law, we both know that, so I'm not pissed off at him at all. And I don't try to beg or come up with excuses .. I drive at a safe speed that will get me where I'm going on time. Faster than posted and I get a ticket? Well, that's the price I pay for exceeding the limit.

Probably everyone know this already, but the 55 MPH speed limit was inacted for fuel conservation and not safety.

Re: Got pulled over twice in one day...

Yeah, I've had a few run ins for speeding lately. I got a letter from the OBMV saying that if I get one more speeding ticket in the calendar year they might suspend my license. I could blame no one except myslef and my lead foot. I was wearing my seat belt though.

Quick Story: Got pulled over in a shady part of Cleveland about 2 months ago. I had my 5.0 mustang and was admittedly acting up with the throttle a little bit while visiting some friends there. A cop comes out of no where and pulls me over. As he approachs the car I tell him I have a CCW immediatly as I was instructed to do so by a cop I know. He says "Does that give you the right to drive like a dickhead?"
What can I say he had me. I told him no I just got a little too happy with the gas. He had me step out of the car and he patted me down and took my piece. He says to his partner who was exiting the squad car "It's alright he has a permit."
He had me sit in the car while they went back to their's to undoubtedly run my record.
A few minutes later he came back, handed me my gun and told me to go home and park the car. I said "Thanks officer" and did so.

These officers let me go because I wasn't the people they were looking for, dope boys, car thieves, murderers, robbery suspects.
I'm an honest, tax paying citizen with no felonies and really no record to speak of. Not that I was expecting or even asked to be let off easy, it sure was nice and I'm grateful.

So I can kind of see where the OP was coming from in looking for just a little leniency, though not for his charity work.

Re: Got pulled over twice in one day...

happened to me coming back home to Denver from vegas through utah about 3 years ago... shit, got 2 tickets within an hour of eachother.. both for speeding... hehe

good thing i hit a $175 on a nickle slot on the way out the door of the MGM... took care of both fines... speeding tickets outside of your home state = no points assessed = good times
