Iphone G3 battery life...

i been reading on other boards that the battery of the new G3 iphone sucks, so i decided to do my own experiment...

1. I charged it all the way
2. Loaded it with Phantom of the Opera and The Departed
3. Ran Phantom with the volume and brightness all the way up, finished phantom and the departed and half way through Insideman then phone died

conclusion: after 5 hours of running 2.5 movies with the volume and bightness all the way up i think its pretty safe to say that the battery dosent suck...

Thanks Gerry. Stopping by the Apple store on my way home to see about picking one up, good to know.

Re: Iphone G3 battery life...

I'm having to charge mine about every other day right now, and that's leaving it idle most of the time currently.

Re: Iphone G3 battery life...

My son gets two, sometimes three days out of his, and he burns thru the phone with usage. Text and music and internet ALL the time. He really puts it to use. I plan to buy three of them as soon as my local stores re-stock (one for me, one for wife, one for daughter).

This is great to hear. I plan on picking one up in a few weeks? How good is the GPS on it?

How are you charging it? Are you letting sit all night on the charger?

Re: Iphone G3 battery life...

My first gen iPhone gets about a day of charge out of it with me using the net, email, and texting all day at work. Not so much on the phone part.

Hopefully my 3G will be in this week to replace the one from my Drunk Friend Advice thread.

I don't like the idea that you have to go to the AT&T store and order one instead of just picking one up. I'm not sure if this is going to be the standard from now on or if it is just because a lack of stock right now.

This isn't a stock issue, AT&T is trying to prevent the 3G from getting hacked, by controlling how the phones are sold.

Nah, can't do that at night cause I use it as my alarm clock also. So far, I've just charged it when I've been working/studying at the computer, or a little bit here and there while I'm on the run.

That might be your problem imo...try running it all the way down and then charging it all the way full every time. Sometimes the short little charges, or charging it in mid life will condition the battery in ways you don't want. When I started doing this with my blackberry I could get just about 2-3 days on a charge. Hope that helps

Why can't you leave it on the charger at night and still use it as an alarm clock?

I believe that is because someone other than you is usually plugging it in to the charger while they download new apps and games.

Leaving it on the charger all night isn't good for the battery

I'll try that once I've gotten my sync-ing in a good schedule and what not. I'm just now getting time to go thru and see what apps I'm wanting to install and all that jazz.

Like smitdavi said, probably not good for it; but I've got my charger in the room I stay in the most and I've tried the bedroom charging before, but didn't care for it.
