Re: How Canada stole the American Dream

I can't believe they left out the most important advantage - health care. My sister and I both now have "pre-existing conditions" and can no longer get a "real" job in this country. We can, however, easily start our own business!

This is one of the reasons there are so many small start-ups(and failures) in the USA. Corporations consider us a liability - and they're right! But in Canada the millions with benign uterine tumors(her) or back problems(me) are still considered employable, productive citizens.

^^^ Hopefully we continue to leave out socialized health care.

Don't get me started... Health care here is not all its cracked up to be. I won't belabor this topic, but those who've had been through the bullshit in our healthcare system know what I mean. It works like this: If you're sick you're taken care of - if you're dying you're taken care of - if you're somewhere in the middle you're screwed.

Fortunately we Americans realized socialism/communism was a bad thing decades ago; no matter how nice it sounds on paper, the execution has proven difficult to impossible. The majority of the people I hear extolling the virtues of Canadian healthcare are Americans, the Canadians are surprisingly quiet on that front. Hopefully our new fearless leader will learn from other countries' mistakes. Same statement applies to Cuba as well, but nobody dares try to 'copy' the Cuban system...

To get back on topic, until Canada gets a brewery comparable to Dogfish Head, Stone, Victory, etc, there's no contest

Re: How Canada stole the American Dream

I work within the Canadian health care system. I have also been in the position to have had to use it a couple of times. While it is true that it is not perfect, Most Canadian would not get rid of the system we have created. Most of us are quite proud of it, even though some may complain about it. You can't please all of the people all of the time.

Canada: We're bigger and we're on top.

Why doesn't this comment surprise me.......while YOU may not want to get rid of the system, that does not magically translate into "most Canadians"
