Re: How Canada stole the American Dream

Yes I work within the healthcare system and make my living off it. I would just as easily be able to make a living working in a privatized healthcare system much like our good neighbours to the south.

Since I work within such a system I get the oportunity to speak with the people that are in need of, and using it, and those people are quite happy with the system. There have been polls conducted which show the same.

Is it perfect? No. But everyone is covered from the least of us to the best of us.

I understand what you're saying, we just look at it from different perspectives, and I don't want to prolong this we simply differ in our opinions, but Read the quote of your countryman above.

But your "opinion poll" by design is flawed. Of course the people who are getting the hand out like the system, who doesn't like something that's free or very cheap? That's the problem with socialism, the people who get the most out of the benefit aren't, for the most part, the people paying for the benefit.

Fair enough. We have different perspectives on the same issue. In the world opinions everything is grey. I don't really come to club stogie to debate the pros and cons of socialized medicine, and it's probably gone on long enough.

Now who wants to see a dancing chicken?

I haven't tried a Canadian whiskey yet that can't be improved by adding diet coke.
On the other hand there are a lot of Kentucky Bourbon and Tennessee Sour Mash that are best with just a little ice and cold spring water.

I agree.... I think that Healthcare systems should be in the same catagory as politics and religion and not discussed.

But my 2 cents....

Clearly the Canadian (mine) system works as we have about 30 million people that for the most part are healthy. We like it, most of us have not had experience in any other system so we cannot properly comment on the US system. The US system seems to work too. Most people in the US have not had any experience with another type of system either, so they cannot properly comment on Canada's system. My only complaint about US comments on Canada's healthcare system is when they call it socialized and extend from that communism. Canada is certainly not communist. I'd call it a social democracy.

Yet the government down here will bail out people who mad poor decisions on mortgages, not people who are only trying to save the lives of their kids/families/selves by using medical care they don't have insurance coverage for.

Don't buy anyone's BS on Canadian healthcare (not directed at you Alyks). I know there is a valid reason Macleans didn’t mention health-care supremacy in their article. Let me spell it out for those who don't get the message: YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!!

Surveys, puleeez…. Doctors here are right pissed off because they're bloody income capped by OHIP and many of the best have taken off to the states or abroad to earn real money. We've got such a serious doctor shortage here that its become difficult to even find a doctor in your area accepting new patients. Want to hear a joke (and I DARE anyone to challenge me on this one) MRI's are not elective and can take in excess of a YEAR to get if you're condition isn't life threatening. How about you back pain sufferers, could you imaging being on a waiting list for months just to find out what’s causing your pain??? You cannot buy your way through the system either - you don't like the service you're getting... to f'in bad. You are governed by the health care system - you work on their schedule not your own. The fact of the matter is, you can buy good health care in the states – in fact you can buy the best. In Canada you take a ticket, wait your damn turn and hope you don’t get some underpaid, overworked, taken-for-granted doctor or health care professional who will undoubtedly come over like a total asshole.

Those who think Canada's health care system is a good one either never had to lean on it or simply lucked out.

I told you not to get me started.
