Canada has the biggest case of penis envy ever. I don't know why they are so obsessed with being better than us but it comes off as sad and pathetic. So in the international scene you are essentially meaningless... that should make you happy.

Yes, unfrotunately. To some degree Americans have more latitude to pick and choose where their money (insurance or otherwise) is spent.

To me - the right to choose your own health care is a liberty or freedom, exactly what America is all about. I'm not trying to infer one system is superior to the other, but it begs the question, would you prefer to have a 'standard' health-care system like Canada's where essentially everyone gets the same 'standard level' treatment - or would you prefer a system where there is always an opportunity to buy better treatment (income permitting)?

I'll concede - on the internation scene, you have bigger dicks than us. But the survey says we have more sex with our smaller dinks

Maybe we should only have medicine for the rich? Lets call the rich 'Lords and Ladies' .. and have the head honcho called King. All the rest of the people ... lets call them serfs! That way, the doctors aren't busy taking care of the serfs who can't pay and will take exceptionally good care of the Lords and Ladies.

I LIKE that idea ... you can call me Lord Fatbottom.

A few things you are missing.

If you have a preexisting condition in the US it is difficult or impossible to get insurance on your own. You're better off robbing a bank and going to jail, as then you get free medical care. Free medical for rapists, murderers, and other criminals .. the rest and make it on their own. Sweet.

Oh, and lest we forget even good medical insurance will cap out at a maximum total lifetime benefits (mine is 1 million) .... which is OK I suppose if you don't get sick. The bills for my twins were well north of 100K ... luckily we have otherwise had good health .. but if not, the spectre is always here in the US that you can't AFFORD to go to a doctor.

Neither of these two systems are ideal in my opinion but of the two, I'd prefer the US system if I was a multimillionaire.

Money doesn't mean dick in getting healthcare (insurance at least).

There are NO policies offered in NY that provide decent coverage to someone making <250% of the poverty line. This is a direct result of the socialization of medicine. Yet no one is up in arms over the fact that half my pay check goes to those who feel entitled to insurance. (When I say no, I mean that nothing is offered, at all, for any price).

You want a good system? Free healthcare for everyone making over an arbitrary meaningless income cutoff line. Keep the productive portion of the population (alliteration turns Canuck ex-pats on, right Sean?) healthy and let everyone else rot. Same socialist BS, just not as warm and tingly.

We were part of a monarchy at one point, complete with King and Queen.

I'd like a hybrid approach - healthcare such as ours with the option to seek your own healthcare at ones own expense. In fact, that's being propositioned now, however, for the moment the closest we can come is running across the border for treatment.

I agree with somebody. Screw the disadvantaged, the poor, the disabled and the stupid. Lets return to the days of Oliver Twist and bring back the workhouses, the poorhouses, the reservations, minority schools and the insane asylums (oops! I forgot the orphanages!). Let them starve and rot where we don't have to see their misery and smell their rotting corpses.

Do you feel like a better person by doing that to the average guy...the one without a sob story? Or is he less human because he "won the lotto of life"?

There are far more effective ways to care for those in true need of help than to take the money of the workers, send it through 35 layers of bureaucracy, bullshit, pork, and socialism, and hope enough comes out the other end to buy a few more votes and get some politicians mug on TV.

Re: How Canada stole the American Dream

With all the Canada Bashing I will detail the 15 reasons that Canada is better then your country.

Canada became a country in 1867 when we filled in the proper forms with the British government.

Our national animal is the beaver. It was chosen as a symbol of our country’s glory for its ability to soar majestically over the landscape on its wide tail.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police is Canada’s national police force, which along with providing basic local law enforcement duties, also fulfills similar roles to all those American agencies with the letters, like the FBI, DEA and TGI Friday’s.

Due to the tilt of the Earth’s axis, and our northern latitude, during the winter months Canada actually travels backwards in time several days.

The Canadian accent is actually much milder than most Americans imagine, and many Canadians live and work amongst Americans undetected, constantly gathering hair samples.

Yes, hockey is still quite a big deal up here. You should really give it a chance sometime. It’s fast paced and hard-hitting and oh **** it… I can’t do it any more. Hockey sucks. We admit it.

You can not catch HIV from sitting on a Canadian.

Re: hockey. I’m not kidding. This past season I watched almost no hockey, and it was great. You know what’s better than watching hockey for three hours? ****ing anything.

Canada is a constitutional monarchy, which technically means we have to obey the Queen if she orders us to do something. It’s mainly a symbolic thing however, as she rarely exercises the privilege - the last time being in 1978 when she ordered us to execute Gordon Lightfoot.

Measured by landmass, Canada is the second most obese country in the world, after Russia.

The name Canada is derived from the native word ‘Kanata,’ meaning ‘village.’ This name was chosen over the protests of early explorer John Shortcock, who wanting to name it after his wife, lobbied strongly for the name “Mrs. Shortcockland.”

The thing is we’re just no good at sports that involve balls. Football, baseball, soccer, golf, you name it, we suck at it. Anything involving something vaguely spherical in fact. Hot Air Ballooning? Don’t even ****ing talk to me about Hot Air Ballooning.

Canada is the home of many great inventions, like the electric light bulb, the television, the telephone, and intellectual property theft.

Canada has the world’s largest coastline.

Canada has the world’s highest percentage of schoolchildren who know which country has the world’s largest coastline.

Is that what happened to me? I won the lotto of life? And all this time I thought I got where I am by busting my ass and working hard.
