Glad you didn't get hurt. You must be in a big city...I never heard of Police refusing to come out for an accident on a public road. Around here the Police show up if you Jaywalk.

Bravo, Mike! Glad only the car was hurt. People make fun of MADD, but too many innocent families get torn apart by drunks, who usually are so wasted they don't even get a scratch!

Good that you weren't hurt. I used to do some crazy stuff when I was younger, so I try not to judge. Now that I am older and hopefully wiser, I gave up the crazy stuff long time ago. Now that I have been on a 911 ambulance for almost ten years, it is very sad to see the damage done to and by drunk drivers. Kudos to you for calling, and to the cop for arresting him so he wasn't able to continue and kill himself or possibly someone else.

I am with you 100% on this. That old cliche ... "You drink, you drive, you go to jail" is pretty much my motto. There is something seriously wrong when a drunk driver is allowed to walk away without a pair of handcuffs on his wrists.

Good job. Hope this gives the boy a clue to straighten up. Most importantly, glad you're ok.

Re: Put a drunk driver in jail today

Thanks to all who wished me well - it's nice to know some people love ya

Hopefully he learns his lesson, and hopefully doesn't decide to harass me for landing him in jail. I'm not sure if he got a DWI or not, but if he did it lands a minimum of 72 hours in jail. For sure his license will be suspended 90 days-1 year, but who knows if he'll take that seriously or not.

I'll deal with the insurance companies as best I can and hopefully spare myself the most inconvenience, as I didn't plan to be hit by a drunk driver today and be without a car for a week or more. Thanks to those who have PMed with advice and help. It's been an eventful day for sure!

I'd suggest a bit of extra caution for a little while, though... this statement is true in both directions. Hope everything works out for ya, Mikey!

I had exactly the same thought when I was standing in line at Wal-Mart yesterday night - I was thinking "I wonder what he would do if I saw him here two weeks from now...that couldn't end well."

All he has is my cell # and my insurance policy #, so he's close to SOL if he's going to look for me. I intentionally didn't give him my address or any other locating information.

Re: Put a drunk driver in jail today

Hope everything works out Good on you for sticking to your guns and getting this guy cuffed. My grandfather was a state trooper for almost 40 years and he has horror stories about drunk drivers. The worst ones are when he had to go to the family and tell them what happened. It's just sad, hope this guy learns a lesson.
