10,000 member/5,000 active member?

After following the thread about lurking wanna be gorillas, got me wondering if it would be an idea to do something special for either the 10,000 gorilla (approx 800 to go) or the 5,000 active gorilla (approx 400 to go)?
Was thinking along the lines of a major bombing? Starting them off on 500 RG? A special "Tag" under their name? Any other ideas?
Possibly a mod could do the countdown so its official?
What do you all think? Worth pursuing?
When the time comes this thread will be long gone so i hope it wont be possible for someone to cheat?

Sorry to burst your bubble but
a) user numbers are well past 12,000. I'm not sure where you get your calculations from or how you define "active"
b) even if your number were accurate, a major bombing? Why? Some recognition, of course. If you understand what "bombs" are for, then you will understand that it would not be appropriate.
c) 500 RG?? The RG is supposed to be for earned respect in the jungle. I will admit that many misuse it and award RG to a new member just because they are from the same state. Heck. Why not give them 5000?

If there were a major milestone for a certain member joining (like the 10,000 you suggest) then I would be for an icon/badge in the user area where the bananas and "site supporter" banners are.

EDIT: I see where you got your numbers - on the home page. I have no clue how those are determined. Or how we could verify.

a) If users are past 12,000 that is obviously information that you are privy to and i am not, i was only going on the information that i can see, which yourself have "no clue" how those numbers are determined or could be verified.

Sorry I came across as sour. Did not mean to do so.

If you look at the URL for any users profile, you can see the user number.

I am in the minority who feel that a bomb is an individual/personal thing (with occasional exceptions). I have no issue with you or anyone else choosing to send a bomb to a new member. I do think bombing the 10,00th member en masse is more about drawing attention to the bombers than the bombee.

You are correct, the jungle will not collapse over issuing RG to someone. But you should see/hear how ballistic people become if/when they get dinged. But debating the usefulness of RG is a dead horse nobody wants to see beaten again.

A redirect when a thread is moved is a choice made on a case by case basis. I did not use it for this one. I apologize for the oversight. For threads folks think are important to keep track of, they can "subscribe" to them and, in that way, never lose track of them.

Finally, and probably most important, this is in no way a personal issue. If it were, I would not have posted in public but PM'd you.

I do like the idea of recognizing the 10,000th gorilla. However, I think something on a smaller scale is more appropriate.

Never was a real problem, Martin. So no need to "make up".
Sometimes it is difficult to express opinions (especially when they are contrary) in a forum such as this. If we were sharing a cigar and speaking face-to-face, I am sure I could better communicate my feelings on the matter.

As far as member numbers go, I read in an ancient thread that at one time PDS deleted all member accounts that weren't active every 6 or 9 months. Are you aware if he still does this? Whether he does or not, it probably explains the discrepancy between the front page numbers and user numbers.
