My boy (dog) had surgery today -

. . . and man do I feel so bad for him. He just got home about 30 minutes ago so he is still groggy - and has one of those damn cone things.

Was giving both of them a bath yesterday when I noticed this deal on his back leg. So the wife called over and got him an appointment at 12:30 - by 1:30 he was having surgery to have a cyst removed. They say it's benign which is good. Poor guy though, never been sick one day (he is nine years old) of his life - wakes up happy like always and by the end of the day been poked, prodded, gassed and cut up.
And with that stupid cone, and being groggy, he keeps catching the thing on corners, furniture, etc. Hopefully he will sleep it off for awhile.

Anyway - just feel bad and kinda helpless for him.

So glad everything has worked out. Those tumors care scary thank God his was benign!!
We went through surgery recently with our "Rosco", I KNOW how scary surgery can be.
Give him Big hugs for a speedy recovery!
We found this blow up collar instead of the funnel. Rosco liked it better.

I wish you and your dog a speedy recovery! I hate to see dogs in less than perfect health.

Re: My boy (dog) had surgery today -

I recieved this today. I normaly wouldnn't post it but after i saw you post i figured a few people may enjoy it.

Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a 10-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog's owners, Ron, his wife Lisa, and their little boy Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and they were hoping for a miracle.
I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family we couldn't do anything for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.
As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for 6-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience.
The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker's family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away.
The little boy seemed to accept Belker's transition without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Belker's Death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives. Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, 'I know why.'
Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I'd never heard a more comforting explanation.
He said, 'People are born so that they can learn how to live a good Life -- like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?' The Six-year-old continued, 'Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long.'
Live simply.
Love generously.
Care deeply.
Speak kindly.
Remember, if a dog was the teacher you would learn things like:
When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.

Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure Ecstasy.

Take naps.
Stretch before rising.
Run, romp, and play daily.
Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.
On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.
When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
Be loyal.
Never pretend to be something you're not.
If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by, and nuzzle them gently.
ENJOY EVERY MOMENT OF EVERY DAY!

It's always hard to see your friends in pain.

Just give him some time and a little extra TLC and he'll be back to his normal self.

Best luck with the boy.

Dogs truly are man's best friend. People who have never owned one will never understand.

Re: My boy (dog) had surgery today -

I remember when I had my boy neutered he had to wear the cone because he has very sensitive skin and wouldn't leave his stitches alone. Try to slow him down a little and he'll get used to it and stop bumping into things.

Here's to nine more healthy years with your best friend.

My Wife found it at a local Petco

Soon as I read that I ran out to Petco - they only had small sizes in stock. Tried PetValue and Pet Smart - no deal. Will look for another Petco tomorrow. Thanks for the tip.

Anyway - I improvised - took a towel, rolled it up, added a little duct tape - hopefully it will work good enough tonight until I can find one of the blow up ones.

He is just resting with this "Dude . . . what the hell?" look on his face at me.

Oh well - maybe harder on me than him . . .

The Old Boy will be good as new in no time... very glad the surgery went well and that it was benign!
