Even though it may be painful have him move the knee as much as possible, otherwise it stiffens up and hurts a lot worse. At least that's what my experience was.

Re: Son needs surgery

I would have never believed this if it didn't just happen. The doctor who performed the surgery just called to see how Nate was doing! It's a freakin' holiday! He reminded me that they took out around 30% of the cartilage so, recovery may be a little harder than normal and that he shouldn't overdo it.

I'm impressed!

Good things happen to good people MCS.

Im glad to hear your son is doing better. I had something similiar done about two years ago and have had zero side effects.

Let us know how he progresses.

I had arthroscopic surgeries several times on both knees and I can tell you that at his age he will be fine in a very short time. Just don't let him skip out on the PT, it is vital to a proper recovery.

Also, since he is so young make sure he wears a brace from now on to keep that knee as stable as possible, to prevent further damage; there is only so much meniscus that can be removed before degenerative arthritis begins to set in, and once that happens it is only a matter of how much pain he can stand before knee replacement. I know from whence I speak.

But if he keeps from damaging the cartilage any more, he'll be fine. Good luck!
