Re: Another Gun Thread, need opinions (pics)

I run a Colt Match Target 1/7 twist, 20" bbl and it's a real shooter. The only thing I would change about this rifle would be a flat top upper to mount my ACOG on.
I would stick with the 20" bbl. I shoot "Practical Rifle" matches and when you shoot steel swingers at 200+ meters, you can sure see the difference in the velocities between the 16" and 14.5" bbls.
If you plan on putting a "can" on it, you're better off with a shorter bbl though.

Mine. Not me shooting it.

I would go with a 1:7 twist so you can shoot 75 grain TAP through it. I love the TAP Red Box 5.56

I have a Bushmaster that I love with an EOTech scope. The only problem I have is getting it away from my wife.

billhud's post hit the nail on the head. Buy what you need, or what you want, but sometimes what you want isn't what you need. AR-15 type weapons are particularly prone to being more eye candy than a tool.
Im not goin to trick it out with 3 lights, 2 lasers one reg one green, a red dot sight and ACOG scope lol. All Im goin to put on it is either a red dot sight or ACOG with a bipod. Im lookin at the Bushmaster V-Match like Tiki suggested

edit: I would like a rail for the front so if I want to get a light or somethin I can

You have to have at least 3 lights, one laser sight, two kinds of optics, and a cigar punch on any rifle.

I suggest the ACOG. I love mine. I don't regret the $800 I spent on it one bit.

Now a cigar punch would be important I was thinking of fashioning one onto the muzzle break. and I was leaning more towards an ACOG too. What brand(s) would you suggest and are they like everything else you get what you pay for?

Take a look at Double Star rifles before you buy one. I have had one for a few years with no problems at all. I put mine together so I could put the parts on it that I wanted. I did buy a complete upper, and changed out the handguards.

To get the rail the easiest thing to do would be to get a set of 2 piece handguards. As far as sights I have the Aimpoint, and wouldn't trade it for anything. You may also want to look at a flip up rear sight incase your optic battery or sight goes out.

Have fun with what ever you buy. They are a blast to shoot.

Here is a picture of it when I got done. Forgive the 1911, it is the only picture I have.

Well, Trijicon makes all the ACOGs, If you mean what Model, I can't really say because I haven't used all of them. The one I have is a TA-31a (no batteries required). I have heard many good things about the TA-31f model. The TA-11 gets high marks too. I would try to check as many as you can before you buy to see what you like and what works for you.

M1A isn't an M14 therefore not a Class 3 weapon.

Fulton Armory makes an excellent one with GI parts and an investment cast receiver. Mine was around $2000 and on a waiting list of several months (which by happenstance got cut short). LRB (?--someone PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong) is the only maker currently producing their receivers via forging (the original way), but last I heard their wait list was over a year and around $3000.

Don't have any experience with the Armscorp or Springfield, Inc. guns, and of the Chinese-made guns your only hope is to have Fulton Armory build up a whole new gun on your Chinese receiver.

And make sure to buy up some 20-round magazines when you can find them--they are getting a bit scarce and a bit expensive now.

Yes, M14s (okay okay, M1As!) are expensive. But like a CC, they are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO worth it!!!
