Puerto Rico In May?
This a good idea? I am trying to find any information about this as a destination and I am curious if any of you have gone or are planning a trip. I think the San Juan area is intriguing and hoping it would be a lot of fun. Any ideas let me know!!

Re: Puerto Rico In May?
There is a lot to do in PR. My parents lived next to the Ritz Carlton in San Juan is Isla Verde. Did you know PR has the third deepest cave in the world. Go to Olde San Juan during the day and visit the Fort. Gambling and Night Clubs in San Juan are a sight. The beaches are breath taking. Most speak English, but if you speak Spanish all the better. Be careful at night, because crime is alive and kicking. The Ritz has the best cigar shop and of course there are no NCs there.

P.R. is great. Lots of things to do. From hiking the only rainforest in the U.S (El Yunque) and some awesome caverns ( Las Cuevas de Camuy) to the awesome beaches. If your into surfing hit the west side of the island and check out Rincon. Boqueron beach, or the small islands off of Fajardo are beautiful. Tons of clubs and bars. Great food the best being from small restaurants. If you like seafood go to an area called pinones. Try some Mofongo Relleno de Langosta or Camarones, Empanadas, papa rellenas. etc. Again the island is awesome if your willing to explore and try new things. Hope you have fun if you go. BTW I would bring your own cigars. I've seen some shops while there but there are not many of them and if you plan on exploring the island it is better to be prepared. As for where your going to stay there are plenty of hotels. If you choose the San Juan area I would stay in the Condado section. The radisson is an awesome hotel with a casino, live music on some nights, nice pool area, and access to a nice beach. Also the Bacardi plant is pretty close and they offer tours. There is a huge mall in the area called Plaza Las Americas too. Visiting Old San Juan and El Morro are a must. If you end up in Ponce the Castillo de Serralles (DON Q) tour is kind of cool. La Plaza de los Bombaderos is interesting plus some nice gift shops and there is an awesome ice cream place across the stree . For the wife there is plaza del caribe (mall). Tons of stuff if you have any other questions just ask.

May is ok in PR. Warm climate and beautiful beaches. Old San Juan has plenty of things to do. Just be careful at night. I strongly recommend visiting El Yunque, Bacardi Rum Plant and the Camuy Caverns. Enjoy.

Yunque is cool, I forgot to mention that one. Bring some tennis/hiking shoes and some swim trunks for when you make it to the waterfall.

The island is fun. Try to cut your own path. The beaten paths are just that.
If you can possible manage it, there are 2 islands Vieques and Culebra that are a puddle jumper away. Spectacular, hip and no Taco Bells. ![]()

Re: Puerto Rico In May?
I must say that I am very intrigued with this possible trip, just have to start saving pennies, any recomendations on time to spend?
I considered going in Feb to avoid the hurricane season but it may be too expensive then being full swing into tourist season. I appreciate all the input so far. Thinking about the San Juan area, wife and I aren't into shopping but enjoy history and sightseeing and the outdoors. Oh did I mention that I love seafood and eating?! ![]()

Re: Puerto Rico In May?
I was there last toward the end of last April.. generally it stays warm all year round. I was there with a friend who grew up in PR, which was really helpful..
Although it's a US colony, not many locals speak English ! Overall, a great place to visit if you like rum and beaches, although in my opinion there are far better Carribean destinations. Visit the Bacardi factory.. they sell a lot of aged rum there u can get in the States. Not only that, but rum is CHEAP. I got a bottle of Captain Morgan for I think $7 US ??? |
