Navy SEAL from NC dies
I went to school with Josh. Keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.

From Fox 8 News.
Josh Harris, a 36-year-old Navy SEAL from Lexington, N.C., drowned while crossing a river in Afghanistan last weekend.

Family members were told Harris' safety harness came undone and he was swept away by swift currents while leading his men across a river. His body was later found downstream.

Harris, who was well-known in his hometown, was the son of Dr. Sam Harris and Evelyn Harris, known for her involvement in youth theater at Grace Episcopal, the family's church.

Family friend Pam Adams Harvey said Harris had accepted a high calling of service to his family and the nation.

"He lived by the SEAL motto," she said, "The only easy way was yesterday."

Harris received many awards during his years of service as a SEAL, including the bronze star.

Arrangement for Harris' funeral are still pending.

His service will be remembered by all who love and value their freedom. Makes me sick how many good men and women we are losing over there and wish things would go much quicker to get them home where they can live their lives with their families who miss them.

I'm no SEAL, but he drowned in a river? That sounds kind of hoaky to me. Seems like a great story for yet another friendly related death in U.S. military history. We are talking about the best of the best and their specialty is water training, I just don't see a seasoned SEAL drowning in a river.

My heart goes out to his family, at least they can sleep at night knowing their son was a hero, a true patriot.

My understanding is his harness came loose or broke as they were crossing a river and he was swept away in swift current. A swift river is a very dangerous thing even for a strong swimmer like a SEAL. The currents can hold you under water in pockets for a long time.


I do understand your doubts though after the Tillman and other situations.
