Mine are to, butthe mayans was round for some reason, I think it was because of the sun or something.

learned something without searching, thank you
I would guess you are right though about the sun being an influence on the shape at least that is my guess

Re: Fear over experiment to recreate Big Bang

Throughout history there have always been those who, for their own twisted reasons, seek to impede science and the progress of our species.

Fortunately, at least now those people don't get to torture, drown, burn nor persecute those who choose to practice or believe differently than them.

They only get to appoint Supreme Court Justices of like mind.

Some scientist are concerned over a test that is going to happen on Wednesday to try and learn more about the big bang theory by slamming sub-atomic particles together at the speed of light.
I've yet to hear a scientist express any concern over this. Walter Wagner has a very minimal scientific background. The other plaintiff in the suit against LHC, Luis Sancho, is a complete crackpot:

I won't be surprised if we DO destroy ourselves someday. I don't know if this is it or not, though. In any case, I think I'll keep trying to smoke good cigars.

Found this today about the LHC: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j50Zs...eature=related kinda lame, but it does dumb down some things about what the LHC is trying to find.

Re: Fear over experiment to recreate Big Bang

I know nothing about sub-atomic particles. Anyone on CS with a educated opinion on this?

It does remind me of a pretty cool plot where a microscopic black hole is captured by the earth and some scientists try to capture it at it's apogee with powerful magnets.

It is in orbit within the earth's mantle and the highest it ever gets is the bottom of the ocean somewhere!

Yes they have used particle accelerators before, but this is the biggest in the world (some 17 miles long I believe) Not sure I buy into the black hole story.... but thought it was interesting on how the "4 years" timed up with the Mayan thing.... still am not getting too worried about it

Every once in a while, a black hole starts up on CS, but thanks to the lifesaving (and highly advanced and educated) skills of the mods, they soon go away.

That's no big deal...the guys computing the calendars had just finished 2012 when the pizza, beer and CC's arrived. They just never got back to it!
