Re: Career advice needed.

I was in a seminar this afternoon and I found out the following:

California has the 6th most inexpensive health insurance in the nation. There are 44 states more expensive than California. The liberal media will never give you that statistic.

Man that's a tough call...

You double your salary, no insurance, get a house, etc. But what about the longterm plans of the company? Something to consider.

If you stay you lose 30k a year, you have insurance, but you also have a lease.

Do what's best for you once you weigh the pros and cons with your family

Re: Career advice needed.

Another wrinkle to add, health insurance can be very difficult to come by. I have had 0 luck finding any sort of policy. There are plenty of options here in NY, but they are all gov'ment sponsored and not applicable to people over a certain income level. I just switched companies and took a $40k pay cut to have the opportunity to be insured (among other reasons).

I would say do what makes you and your family the most happy. Above anything else, money, insurance or benefits, where will you be the happiest? Once you answer that, then you will know what to do.

Re: Career advice needed.

Thanks for all of the great advice. I decided to go for it. This will put my income in the six figures and allow me to get out of debt. The home that I will be moving to is in walking distance to a lake and has a basement. I have always wanted a basement. Just having a free ride out of California is pretty huge for me. I'm pretty tired of California and have been wanting to move out of state for a while now. Wish me luck gentlemen. I'll take pics when I get there.

Hey, where are you moving to specifically? I am in Washington, south of Tacoma. There is a pretty healthy CS contingent in the area and we meet regularly.

Are you moving soon? The weather here right now is fantastic. Be prepared for stretches of long periods of gloomy weather though but it is worth it when the sun starts shinning and the mountains and trees glow.

We will be moving to Snohomish in about two weeks. It would be great to know if there are some guerrillas in the area. My girl's grandfather just passed away a few hours ago which really makes this a bit more difficult. He was a great guy.

Re: Career advice needed.

I urge you to strongly resist immediately adjusting your lifestyle to your new income. Stash away as much cash as possible and think of retiring early instead of living the high life now. I wish I could take back some of the stupid things I did when I received very large pay increases.

Re: Career advice needed.

Wow, well congrats on the move.

I agree withthe common opinion....do NOT boost your lifestyle....keep the earnings in savings, make yourself one hell of a retirement or rainy day fund.

Re: Career advice needed.

Well guys I just flew in on the 26th and stayed at a cabin until my house was ready on the 1st. The cabin didn't have internet and I just got it here at the house today. So far everything including rent has been paid for by my employer. I got screwed by the moving company so my stuff won't be here for 7-14 days; including my cigars. They are all in a cooler with humidification but I am a bit worried about them at this point. My car will be here tomorrow. So far Washington is pretty sweet. I like it much better than California. I won't be on much for the next couple of weeks but will be stopping in here and there. Pics coming soon.
