Best Flash drive bang for the buck

I used to have a ScanDisk, but it got misplaced along with my stupid keys. Does anyone know of a good one that isn't like a thousand buck? I have to keep cost low because I have to get my wife a 2GB one too. I'll be getting a 4GB. Thanks!

Hey, bro. Most of 'em are pretty cheap nowadays. You can get a 4G for under $40. I'd suggest that you just be sure it's U3 compatable. I'm running Roboform off mine, and I love it. Also, consider getting one without a cap, because they tend to get lost. That's why I liked the SanDisk design.

Re: Best Flash drive bang for the buck

Just something to also keep in mind:

Not all flash drives are created equal. In other words, a 4G drive from 3 different companys will not be the same.

Obviously, USB flash drives vary by storage capacity (ie: 256MB, 512MB, 1GB, 2GB, etc.). But they also vary by read and write speeds.

Read speed - the speed at which the flash drive retrieves your data (retrieve files).
Write speed - the speed at which the flash drives can write the data (save files).

If you will be transferring large files or moving gigabytes of photos around or are a stickler for performance, then these are EXTREMELY important attributes to you. Otherwise, any old USB Hi-Speed flash drive will do the trick. I have seen the read speed of flash drives vary from 5.5Mb/s to 38Mb/s, and they keep getting faster every week.

For example: A PNY XLR8 4G drive has 30M/sec read & 20M/sec write speeds and is around 80 bucks. A Kingston Data Traveler which is also a 4G drive has a 11MB read and 7MB write speed and is around 20 bucks.

Just something to keep in mind when looking at different drives.

check office supply stores. They often run specials on these. I've got several, the 2 gig was like $15 on sale, think I paid $25 for a 4 gig on sale 6 months ago.

There's always Wally-world, of course!!

Sandisk from Buy.com, they always have the best deals on these... I like the Sandisk due to the size (it can fit into pretty much anywhere next to anything and it has the retractile USB so you don't have to mess with caps)
